Ever buy sport jerseys from China?

  • A couple of them caught my eye. I like the Trammell and Gison in grey. I also like the Lou Brock in the blue cardinal uniform. That one is badass. I'm going to buy a few and see what happens. Thatnks for the info guys.

And, of course the NCAA doesn't allow player's names on the back...not to mention the font isn't correct.

I'm sure Fanatics, Inc. appreciates that.

coffee Yeah, I'm not too concerned about that.

So, a company pays to advertise on this site, and you promote ways to buy counterfeit merchandise from vendors in China?

Not to mention, there's no way in hell they are paying licensing fees to Michigan State (or any other team/university).

    Solid logic there.

  • I'm going to use paypal and take a chance on a Fielder, maybe a Gibson.

Just a heads up for you. Football Fanatics doesn't sell the Griswold jersery. We all get what you're 'trying' to say but no one seems to care.

Have you ever seen any of these? A lot of times the colors are off, and the quality of fabric used in the jersey (and name and number twill is also substandard). You can tell by looking at some of the jerseys that they aren't even using the right patches.

You get what you pay for I guess, and you also might NOT get what you pay for if customs confiscates it.

    They are 100% counterfeit.

I'm actually surprised that you seem to be condoning the purchase of these, since Fanatics, Inc. advertises on your site.

No, I haven't seen any of these. I'd expect some are better than others. I'm not condoning anything, I'm just saying that it's interesting and can understand how some fans would opt for this. I can see A LOT of fans saying that if it passes the 3-foot rule, it's worth saving $100-200 off a jersey.

If they had a bad buying experience due to a shoddy product or issues with customs, they likely wouldn't purchase from them again. Clearly people are happy with them though, otherwise they wouldn't be in business.

Others won't be happy with anything less than an authentic $275 Mitchell & Ness jersey.

  • I think I'm going to take a chance on the Road Pistons Rodman jersey and Gordie Howe jersey.

They're not paying to advertise, for one. I'm also not "promoting" anything. I'm just stating that I can understand how some might go that route.

Not trying to be Debbie Downer but am I the only one that has a problem with this? When did buying illegal Chinese forgeries become acceptable? I realize the 'real thing' is expensive but you're taking money from US companies that have paid for licensing and rights to produce these. While the real jerseys are probably not made in the US either, the companies (M&N, Nike, Addidas, UA, etc) employ thousands of US citizens.

Little things like this add up to Billions of dollars in lost earnings for the US and transfers the money to China.

    Wells.

While I certainly see your point, I'm confident that a company like Nike or Adidas will be able to survive without $60 more dollars from me.

And yeah I know..."Well if everyone thinks like that then it adds up"

  • Few things, the US justice dept has been shutting down these websites. These are usually 100% conterfeit and not seconds. They are very close to teh same quality but are not. Signed and framed you can't tell much of a difference. Buy it to wear and people standing close to you and the feel you can tell pretty easily.

It's a huge morale issue in this country and the poor economy doesn't help.

Capitalism acknowledges property rights, both tangible and intellectual, something the Chinese don't.

I disagree 100%. Capitalism does not acknowledge property rights with out government regulation. Property rights allow for a monopoly and no true monopolies exist with out government intervention. American Capitalism does acknowledge property rights and the government works to protect those, but the market forces of a true laissez faire economy do not.

  • If the jerseys are counterfeit, and some most likely are, the market will shut down those suppliers quickly. No one wants a jersey with the wrong lettering and crooked names. But, the jerseys that are near perfect, and there are many, one must wonder how these are being made. Are they simply stolen? If so, how do these companies have such a inventory over so many different products?

It would be very hard to steal these jerseys in different sizes and colors out of a warehouse and sell online. If the jerseys that are seen as near perfection, like my throwback Mitchell and Ness are counterfeit and someone's said Winter Classic jersey, it is entirely possible by hard to believe that a random Chinese company is aware of this once used jersey and all the patches and are manufacturing the jersey and all the patches themselves. The cost of the patches would be more than a single online retailer, that sells jerseys for 25-50 dollars, would be able to afford. It just doesn't add up that there is a warehouse making counterfeit, near perfect, jerseys and selling them online.

I believe that there are two seperate jerseys in this market, one that is counterfeit, like the Cousins jersey, and one that is either stolen (which I believe the major corporation or warehouse would catch on and shut down over time and spend money to do so in order to not lose revenue in the chinese jersey online market) or there is something going on where these online retailers are purchasing overstock/blemished jerseys and selling them online.

Thanks for chiming in MLeague, I was hoping to get some informed input on this.

I can't help but feeling though on the other end of the market that companies like Mitchell & Ness are producing these $300 Kobe Bryant All-Star jerseys for something like $30 including licensing. (Yes, I realize the comparisons here to blackapple lol)

No you mis-understood what I was saying. I'm not condoning the actions either way. I'm just laying out some facts based on my experiences in that industry, that is all. I never said I agree or disagree with it. I will gladly tell you my opinion of what you have said and I believe it to be 99% factual. I have no interest in getting into a capitalism discussion today. Buying and selling them is illegal and they are trying to stop it. The question is it driving 56 in a 55 or is it 100/55 and drinking and killing someone.... Age old question.

These are not seconds or stolen (yes there are some of those but that is a very very small percentage) these are counterfeit jerseys and usually made in different factories. You can get the same things made locally in Lansing as well -just not as cheap as from china.

I bought six jerseys from China awhile ago to check them out and see what the fuss was, I won't do it again for various reasons. Some include the quality is just not there to wear them, it didn't feel right to me when I got them, like I was doing something shady....

One thing to look at is the Ford F-150 that China is copying and producing by a Chinese company. They stole the entire design for the car. Is that right to do? Again, I don't know I'm not an attorney in intl trade law but on the surface it seems deceptive.

Also to clear things up, what I think is a huge problem is people buying them and saying they are authentic with original Mitchell/Ness or Nike etc. tags on them.... that is ilegal, deceptive and wrong and something I would never do. I do have a problem with people doing that.

    MLeagueGreen

  • I guess I don't see a problem with this whole thing/ while I do understand the argument that "it´s unfair."

Does Old Navy affect the sales in upscale merchandisers? I would assume that the affect is minimal. These $25 Jerseys are no different than Steve & Barry's or some other store which sells cheap crap. These jerseys are being displayed in museums, IMO. They being worn on game day soaked in spill beer and mustard stains. If Mitchel & Ness drops their $400 jersey prices, maybe more would buy them as well.

Actually Trever I think you areoff a bit here. I honestly believe they are into them at half that price. Maybe 15.00 -20.00 maximum. the jersey, manufacturing, freight can't be more than 10-12.00 each landed back to the USA. What they may MLB and the player, team, etc... that is a different story and probably costs more than the jersey itself.

I looked into having an MSU item licensed recently dealing with one of the coaches. A very similar (the same but different pose) retailed for 299.99 4-5 years ago and my cost then as a distributor was 150.00.
I was quoted for the exact same thing 37.00 each from China. And that was landed to my house from China. the exact same quality, material, packaging, etc..... My wholesale cost was 150.00 and I can get them in bulk at 37.00 each. That was without price shopping in China.

Licensing and trademarks are a huge issue. I ended up not doign it as I couldn't get an agreement to have it licensed properly but that gives you a rough idea how cheap stuff from there can be and how easy it is for their factories to make whatever we want.

and no jabs on the typos... too busy and sick today to deal with them!
