Excited, first Common Ground Visit... Joe Walsh

  • Just got VIP tickets to see an Ordinary, average guy in Lansing.

Never been to Common Ground, hear its a zoo. Hopefully, as they only have 15 rows of VIP it will make fighting the crowds easier for an old guy like me.

How is the venue, and i see there are two stages, assume they are far apart?

Just had a quick listen to Joe's new album, Analog Man. Three or four excellent cuts on there, including Funk#50.. First solo effort in 20 years. Jeff Lyne of ELO fame produced it, guy is quite a perfectionist.

Saw a set list from this tour from about a month ago, nice song choices.

The other "stage" is actually a pavilion tent. I would say it only holds a few hundred people. I saw Tonic there and it was a pretty good show.

I am not going to see Joe Walsh but i am seeing Bush play on Monday and The Wallflowers on Friday.

  • Joe Walsh is the only band at Common Ground that I have any interest in this year. It is an incredibly weak field.

the only band I'd be willing to go see is Cheap Girls..

the Common Ground thing has never done anything for me.. so I've never been - but Cheap Girls is tempting.. the kid wants to go, so I'll probably take her.

Any links to cheap girls? What kind of band? I saw that Sublime with Rome is going to be there. Def a headlining act. Their new album (well not so new about a year old maybe) was pretty good imo.

Joe Walsh performed at the inaugural Common Ground in 2000.

  • Joe is now Ringo's brother in law. He married Barbara Bach's sister about three years ago.
Ringo plays on that new Analog Man effort.

Pinky and I will be at Bush as well.

For the OP - just an FYI. Unless there's a special VIP entrance (there may be) there's only 1 way in so get there early.

  • Apparently according to my girlfriend and a bunch of our friends Eric Church is a hugely popular country act. i would not know him from Garth Brooks if they were standing next to each other but I bet it will be a huge turnout. I do not agree at all with the person who said this years lineup sucks. I would love to go down there almost every night. I will check out Cheap Girls on Monday at the Pavilion Stage before heading over to see Bush.

Eric Church is a pretty huge act actually. He's also a badass and a guy you definitely would want to party with.

I think you could go see the Wallflowers to be ironic.

meh - I've seen them a few times already..

I liked that song they had on the Godzilla sound track. That Jacob Dylan can write a tune.

  • Saw Huey Lewis at Common Ground a few years back and it was one of the most thoroughly enjoyable concerts I've been to (And I've been to hundreds)
