Student Section Re-Named 'The A-Team' - Michigan State Official Athletic Site
The MSU hockey student section officially has a new name to help usher in the newest era of Spartan hockey. The section will now be referred to as The A-Team. The name was selected after close consideration of the numerous suggestions submitted to MSU Athletics, MSU head coach Tom Anastos, and the Student Alumni Foundation (SAF) via twitter, Facebook, and email.

"All name suggestions must be submitted by Sunday, August 26 11:59PM. Suggestions will be compiled and reviewed by Coach Anastos, the team, members of the MSU Athletics staff, and the leadership of SAF. The top three names will posted on www.msuspartans.com on Tuesday, August 28. Students will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite through Friday, September 7. The winning name will be announced on Tuesday, September 11."

Honestly, they should have just asked you to name it. I think you've earned that privilege.
I recall sending the AD a pair of emails about a hockey student section overhaul two and three years ago. To my surprise, of the four points I outlined, the AD implemented three of them. I don't want to sound like a total douchenozzle, but I do feel like I kind of have my hand in the whole overhaul process already.
That said, it would have been so much better if the AD let the students pick the name. I really think that's where 90 percent of the outrage over "The A-Team" is coming from.
Did the student section need to rebrand itself? Definitely. "Slapshots" had such a negative, uncool connotation for so long that it had to be scrapped. It couldn't be saved. But this is a bad start to a new era.

Not to mention, I'm terrible at naming things. The best thing I came up with in my head over the last month was "The Anasties."
It's a portmanteau of "Anastos" and "nasty," and the fact that I felt the need to explain that kind of proves how horrible of an idea it was. Yeah, it'll be a dark day when I start naming children.
