Firm emailed me for an interview, replied, and now no response

  • I replied with my availability, the interview is on Wednesday, and no reply or confirmation yet. Should I call on Monday?

    GreenAllDay

  • No, you said the interview was set. Be there 20 mins early.

    Sgost8

  • That all sounds totally legit.

    Sincerely,

    No, it does not

Orientations are usually on Monday. Show up on Monday ready to work...when they don't have your name listed, act surprised and say that [insert your contact's name] said to show up. Since you know the HR person's name, they're going to believe you. They'll have to manually enter your paperwork, but they will still process you because their processes are all silo'd.

They will never know that you weren't officially offered the job.

  • Yes, call them.

You like 22 or something? Don't be scared, contact the HR rep and see what's going on. Take the initiative.

  • It's Saturday. Maybe the interviewer doesn't answer work e-mails on weekends. I know I don't.

  • You could always have your mommy and daddy show up with you on Monday to bitch out HR if there is no interview. If there is one, be sure they answer all the questions well!

  • What reputable "firm" emails someone to set up an interview? Even in this age of technology, it's still customary to call people for these things. Either it's some kind of spamjob, of some dickbag from Amway who wants to meet to discuss a "lucrative business opportunity."

It is a reputable law firm. They asked for my availability on Wednesday and I replied.

    Probably will call on Monday

I work in HR for a multi-billion dollar (soon to be one of the 50 biggest companies in the world), and I confirm interviews all the time via e-mail.

I will say though that it's usually after I've talked to them on the phone they say they "Can interview Tuesday afternoon", and I send them an e-mail saying "As discussed, your Tuesday afternoon at 2PM is confirmed, attached is your interview itinerary directions, application..... blah blah....."

Also - to the Original Poster - I'd like to think if it were my interview it would be set up by Friday for Monday, and you'd know by now. BUT, often times the tentative time is all set, but I'm waiting on one of our Executives to confirm their schedule, or order they can interview, etc. My advice is CALL (office and mobile if possible) the HR person on Monday and just ask them if everything is confirmed. If you don't hear back on Monday or Tuesday AM at latest - they're lazy or inconsiderate or both.

And tell them you were told to start working on the Penske file. I reccommend putting it in an accordion type folder system.

Fair enough. If it was up to me, all correspondence would be done via e-mail. Having a documented chain of dialog has saved my ass on more than one occasion.

  • If you have any doubt, call. Nobody will ever give you a hassle if you take the initiative to show that this interview is important to you. Sometimes HR people forget to make a call to confirm. It happens, especially when recruiting is split up between multiple HR personnel.

Lesson I learned a while ago in business is that professional success isn't attained by the timid. Regardless of the quality of work you contribute, you are the only person that cares about your career as much as you do, so act accordingly.

I've interviewed a few times recently where hr or recruiters fail to follow up. I'll follow up with thAnk you email, and then a phone call to see where I stand.

Some are better than others, but one company stands out as being terrible. They recruited ME, I drove 3:15 to interview, they gave me 45 minutes, I followed up with the three interviewers, and never got a response. I get it if I'm not the guy, but have some tact.
