Foosball Players: 3 goalies vs. 1 goalie

  • I do like 3. Maybe its just my generation though. I thought no spinning was just an unwrriten rule that everyone followed. I have had a lot of fun with the famil playing foos and table hokcey over the years. I am a big video game guy, but there is just something about those old school games.

  • 1 Goalie and banked corners is a Foosball table

    3 Goalies is Table Soccer

I have my Dad's old table, a Deutchmeister, which is in really good shape. I know its old because it was made in Western Germany.

  • Is it legit to slide a bar quickly toward your opponent with the intention of striking him? nono

I definitely agree with the no spinning (it's much less effective than a seasoned wrist-snap anyway) but I've never heard of the no five-man scoring.

I've always played no 5 man scoring. And 1 goalie.

  • Use to play a lot. Was never that good playing the 3 and 5 but I was great playing the 1 and 2. The only rules we play by were no spinning, and we would check the ball on the rollout after a score with the ball ending up with the team just scored on.

Heard of the 5-man rule but I don't get it...what's the problem with scoring from there? I don't get the no scoring on your own team rule and 'no slop goals' either...a good goalie can negate those much of the time. A goal is a goal, just like hockey. If your goalie knocks the ball in his own goal or the ball is banked or deflected, that's a score.

  • Forgot one other rule we played by...any blistering shots popping out of the goal after going in (the sound alone makes it obvious) were counted as goals.

  • Anybody know where I can get a foosquidditch table?

  • I grew up on 1 man goalie but I haven't seen one of those tables since then... I was always told (much to my dismay) that 3 goalies is the standard tournament rules. And that seems to correlate with me only seeing those tables anywhere I've been that advertises they have foosball.

1 goalie is much preferred, and I'd go as far as to just buy a tornado, remove the two semi-goalies and build some ramps. I think I've seen premolded ramps, too... too lazy to look it up right now but I bet one of the billiards sites has them.

In our house it was legal, but only for nut shots. It was frowned upon if you put someone's eye out while they were bending over.

The point of no 5 man goals is that it's pretty easy to score from the 5 man, and pretty tough to defend. It also allows someone to play entirely on one side (defensive) of the table. When you take away 5 man scoring, you are forced to move from defense to offense, which also provides scoring opportunities for the defense if they can get it past your 5 man.

Counting own-goals just seems dumb. If your opponent accidentally drops it in the goal while moving the ball around on defense, he loses possession and it becomes a spot ball. That is penalty enough. I'd rather just count actual goals.

These are not "official" rules though0. I'm sure tournament play allows 5 man scoring and probably counts own-goals. I think the first touch after a score is an official rule.

I was looking up tables on-line last night, and 3 goalie tables are definitely the predominant configuration now.

I think this is mostly because Tornado bought out several other companies, and they've always featured 3 goalies. I too would consider buying a Tornado and modifying it to be a 1 goalie table.

The advantage of the 3 goalie table is simply speed of play. Game moves along much faster.

How in the world would you modify a 3 goalie to a 1 goalie? Not sure how you would build a ramp. Otherwise, you would have to special order a new longer bar and it would stick out the table by three feet on either side.

Someone posted above about pre-fab corner ramps being available.
I've never really noticed a problem with the rod sticking out too far on a 1 goalie table. The man doesn't go all the way to the corner, because it is banked.

  • Also, you can buy a Tornado table with 1 goalie. Sounds like the tournament standard is 1 goalie.
