Four UM reserves won't be coming back in 2012

  • Anyone who doesn't think Hoke is chasing guys away is an idiot, he's cleaning house and showing these guys the door, you're lying to yourself if you think it's different.

I was wondering about this. Unless they oversigned for 2012, how does this free up room? Still strange to see so many 5th year seniors walk out on a program. That isn't normal.

That's definitely not normal. I'm having a hard time thinking of the last MSU player that didn't come back for his senior year that didn't leave for the draft. One that wasn't Delco Rowley.

to do what? Khoury was going to 'compete for the starting job'.....these kids are going to end up somewhere else for their 5th year, taking grad classes. They were run off to make room this year. Simple fact. Or are they going to take their general studies degrees out into the world to work in the illustrious profession of used car salesman or insurance agent?

Did you notice the one who stayed (Barnum) has never played center? So the guy snapping to DNard will be doing so for the first time in his five-year career. Anthony Rashad White says, "Yes, please." lol

Also, they're looking to replace Martin with Will Campbell. And that's going to be one weird-looking OL.

yes it is, remember when everyone left when Bo started? those who stay will be champions (but not at a national or bowl-game level)

    this.

of course all the Michigan guys are already trashing me in another thread for pointing out the obvious...the kids that are leaving are not any good. They are worthless players that just occupy roster spots. But of course this is just me "bashing" the kids as people.

The reality is the kids that are leaving were more than likely shown the door by Hoke, and they were done so because they are terrible football players that just occupy scholarships. They suck at football, but hey that's just me bashing them as individuals and not telling it like it is.

I don't think you want to talk about Bo like that.

13 Big Ten Championships in 21 seasons.

Does MSU even have 13 Big Ten championships in it's entire history?

Barnum was a 4*, 5th overall center in the nation coming our of HS.

I don't know. We never played in a Big Ten when we and Ohio State stockpiled players due to lax scholarship rules and got to play 8 terrible Big Ten teams every season. Maybe then we'd have lots of Big Ten Championships too lol

Winning the Big Ten in the 70's is like winning the Big East today.

    completely wrong

I guess your 'Michigan Thread Alarm' isn't broken after all. It's funny how quickly one good season and a coach that's not a walking joke can bring back your arrogance.

  • There are many programs that value 5th year seniors

In Hoke's case they are clearing the decks.

The coaches told them their playing opportunities were between slim and none. Given that news it means you believed rr when you got a redshirt, went to class, didn't schedule your class load for a 5th year and are told thanks, good bye.

How many people will umaa have on scholarship this year?

If its 85 these folks leaving opened up room for some of those 85.

I do not know how common it is or not, but Hoke has zero incentive to push these guys off the team. This had no impact on how many scholarships they gave out in 2012 and has no impact on 2013. You think Hoke wanted to get rid of a scholarship offensive lineman and scholarship WR?

    Exactly.

This is like Carl Grimes not coming back for his 5th year.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Right now, with Kovacs, UM has 79 players on scholarship.

Where it looks suspicious is that there are 4 of them. Carl Grimes transferred to SVSU for his senior year and honestly, it didn't really surprise any of us since he could never put it together and wasn't going to see much PT. When you strap together 2-3-4 of them at a time, it appears that there's something going on.

Getting 5th year SRs off the team doesn't do anything to help them. They were right at 85 guys when they recruited this past class.

Khoury is the only guy that affects UM, due to their already low non-FR OL #s.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Since it has no effect on 2013 recruits, and they aren't over the scholarship limit for 2012, what appear to be going on, in your opinion?

I don't know. Maybe it's personality? Maybe it's team chemistry? Maybe it's Michigan simply letting them know that they weren't going to see many snaps and they could stay if they wanted, but they were focused on developing the new kids. It's just odd to have so many of them.

  • 1969 is a long time ago and very different to the way things are today. In 1969 there was unlimited scholarships and even with Schembechler losing the 30-40 players he did that first year he still had more than 90 scholarship athletes. Throw in the fact that UM had the largest football program budget it was hardly the more level playing field it is today.
Had the rules that are in place today been in place in 1969 the history of the Big two little eight would be vastly different. Bo and Woody won as long as the deck was stacked in their favor, because other than beating up on a very weak Big Ten conference they both got bitched slapped in bowl games against equal talent.

Looks like DickRod's recruits don't fit with what Fatty wants to run, and he's getting his style of players into town, so DickRod's Island of Misfit Toys are being broomed out. That's what I make of it. Very similar to what that mean man is doing in Ohio. NTTAWWT.
