People thought I was quite the spectacle during the 4th quarter of the UTL game, and I was quite the spectacle on the opposite end of the spectrum during the MSU game this year. And the 3 before that as a matter of fact....but what can I say, I love my team.

  • Ya, we thought Saban was going to play conservative against us too and our D with Greg Jones, Jerel Worthy, and Chris Rucker.

  • MAC/MSC and a lot of other schools had used the Spaulding Winged Helmets before Crisler adopted it at Princeton in 1935.

Anyone Michigan fan want to guess the first college football team to wear it in 1930?

    Ohio State.

MAC even adopted it prior to Crisler at Princeton...in 1934.

Michigan was late to the game, in 1938, when many team had moved on to better more consistant padding patterns already.

MSC lasted till 1948...one of the last to give up on them.

yeah, I'm aware. Wasn't really bragging, just taken by someone saying I wasn't a REAL college football fan because I am a UM fan. But I just love college football. Especially the Walverines. I'm pretty over the top sometimes. People thought I was quite the spectacle during the 4th quarter of the UTL game, and I was quite the spectacle on the opposite end of the spectrum during the MSU game this year. And the 3 before that as a matter of fact....but what can I say, I love my team.

    Let me ask you this.

Serious question for you and all other non alumni fans (of both schools actually, and I don't mind non alumni fans generally but just would like to now where you all fall):

What if something incredibly evil and despicable happened within the UM athletic department like what happened at PSU?

Would you still be as huge a fan, fevered enough to go on an opponents message board an spew company lines over and over again in order to...well I don't know why actually...?

Would you still fully support an Athletic Department that covered up years of terrible crimes despite the fact that you have no other tangible connection to the institution outside of routine?

(If any PSU fans are lurking, would like an answer as well...I really want to know the motivation of filling Beaver Stadium this season).

  • Damnit, I give up. The points that "laughable" has made are so convincing that I just can't be a Spartan fan anymore. There clearly is no reason for anyone in the world to be a fan of any team but UM.

There is no possible way that any other team could beat UM! What was I thinking?

There is a reason they haven't lost a game since 1877...they just exist on a higher plane of existence where score is irrelavant. The fact that they have the charity to grant other teams to be in proximity to their shining maize-ness means that they have already won at everything.

So, why couldn't MSU beat Alma College, Michigan Military Academy, and Racine College? Did they suck back then too.

Hey jackoff, they were MAC (Michigan Agricultural College) back then. Then they were MSC (Michigan State College). They didn't become "MSU" until 1957. This is why I HATE scUM fans - they make fun of MSU for being agricultural??? How old are you anyway? 12 ????

First of all....I don't think anything that drastic will happen again college sports for a long time becuase that is a pretty rare case I think.

But if it did happen to Michigan......

I would want a total house cleaning from anyone with any ties to the program that was getting paid or donating (and I know it would hurt bad). So that means all coaches, athletic directors, trainers, university prez, boosters, etc...

I feel I would remain a UM fan though simply for the nastalgia of TEAMS and PLAYERS from the past and for the TEAM and PLAYERS present, but I would want nothing to do with any paid personel who knew about the situation and kept it secret. Even if it meant an SMU type falloff. I've been a hardcore fan too long to stop liking them altogether.

If it was a serious, but lesser situation lilke paying players, or something to the OSU extent, I would simply be ashamed of those certain players, coaches, and boosters....like how much of the fanbase (including myself) is ashamed of Cwebb, Bullock, Traylor, Steve Fischer, etc. And we understand that those sanctions and the Steve Fischer debacle set our bball program back a decade, and we are not proud of those times, but we remain fans.

Incompetent coaching and AD's set your program back. Not that gentle touch on the wrist the NCAA gave you. That and that fact that the UM fanbase doesnt follow basketball and it really has no track record of any success without cheating and you have the 1999-2009 UM hoops program.

    1. You never know...the PSU scandals was covered up for years then Boom!

    2. The Fab Five/Ed Martin stuff went way back and even that is nothing compared to the type of Evil Sandusky brought to CFB. Its not comparable at all...nothing is.

    3. Cleaning house is one thing, but what if a legend like Bo and nostalgia like Bo was involved (i.e Paterno). Would you all reminders...even if it means eliminating the noslogia that is the only thread attaching you to the University?

    4. What about the countless victims? This is something that people in middle Pennsylvania are going to be dealing with for a long time. Many are not known, many people may know some and not know it. The mention of PSU Football could revolt them if the if it stirs memoirs...would you be more careful about being so openly a fan, if you knew you fandom to strangers could affect them on deep levels?

    5. You say you are a fan of college football...if something happens even worse then PSU (nothing would surprise me any more) that causes Michigan to completely dissolve their football program, would you give up on College Football completely ?

    6. You didn't remain fans when the Basketball program was slapped...I can't remember how many times I heard from fans and even the media that "Basketball doesn't matter at Michigan".

These are some of the many issues "fans" of PSU are facing. Fortunatly, they can shut down and limit their exposure to the programs for a while...alum aren't afforded the same convinence. We will always be tied to our Alma Mater in ways that non-alum could never understand.

oh and final score.....UM-14 Bama-24....I know we aren't at beating top contender-level good yet. But Saban will play somewhat conservative and they do lose a lot of starters, but they should control the game. Probably will be 24-7 for a while , with a late surge, but not enough. Like many UM games with Rodriguez players.

Try 48-14. Alabama will score 24 points in the first half.

The RCMB...is one of the most awful, alarming, inappropriate, disgusting, and offensive msg boards in the history of the internet.
