Gary Harris out with Shoulder Injury

  • Online Predator said...

Why us then? Why is it always us?

Dawson's freak play cost us the outright title and hurt our depth in the tournament. I hope this shit does not cost us a possible promising season. I hope he is back in a month.

Hopefully Valentine can continue to get better especially offensively...we'll need more scoring from Byrd and whoever else can step up..Costello, etc..

The season's not over with Harris out..

    yet...

  • I am still perplexed by him not having a sling and showing no discomfort whatsoever.

Dude, it's sports. People get hurt. It goes in streaks.

UNC was a national title team last year that got absolutely gutted by injury, basically started as soon as they left the aircraft carrier. It happens.

    Hard to ignore this streak:

    2012 - Harris shoulder
    2011 - Dawson ACL
    2010 - Payne shoulder/small lungs
2009 - No one ranked high enough to get hurt
    2008 - Roe Knee

The top player in 4 of the last 5 classes has gotten seriously injured (potentially with Harris) at some point between their senior year in HS through their freshman year at MSU.

Again. It happens. I'd say we've had pretty good luck with football injuries the past few years, no?

We don't even know if this is a HUGE injury yet. If its six weeks, we'll be fine. Might drop a game or two along the way but besides @ Miami there isn't a game I could see us losing in the next ten.

Are you trying to blame this on someone?

    Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.

No one to blame just saying it's an incredible string of bad luck. Just putting it in black and white. Has any other school had this many injuries to their top recruits? Maybe but I doubt it.

Didn't Harris play hs football ? Football players are pretty tough & have that ,,,"its just a bruise " kind of mentailty.

Hopeful that the MRI doesn't show too much damage.

Right, but even if he was just "being tough", you'd have to think that he sill would've been in a sling

Other than the OLine, relatively few key football injuries. Although all the OL injuries have been pretty detrimental.

True, but still, major key players especially in 2010 and 2011 we caught a lot of breaks.

    Agree.

In the Dantonio era, I can't really think of any major contributing skill players that went down with serious injuries.

Ringer had the knee issue, but that was prior to Coach D. I guess you could say Fowler. His injuries have definitely slowed him down and possibly held him back from being a major contributor. All the other ones have been minor like Norman and TRob last year getting banged up, Isiah Lewis at times. Pickleman injury hurt last year but it was at the end of the year. I thought KMart missed a few games in 2010 and it hurt us for a little bit.

I can think of a few on Fball (Barrant, Boisture, our entire O line this year) and Bball (Byrd, Dawson, Payne, Lucas w/ his Achilles) but things could be worse. We could be Purdue in Bball or UNC had their share of injuries. The good news is even if Harris is out its his non-shooting hand and and not his hips/knees/ankle so he'll be back.

I swear to god these injuries do not happen to other programs with so much regularity.

We've had our fair share. I think most programs have. Our starting PG didn't even get to play a game and he was done for the year. Don't even get me started on football...

True. I think Maryland or someone else had like all 4 of their QB's go down with season ending injuries.

It's always fun to play the "Who's Going to Tear Their ACL?" game with Purdue too.

Iowa and all their running backs. Yeah, they beat us, but its been an awful season for them. 4-8, loss to CMU.

Shit happens. I'm sure Gary will be ok and he's a tough, athletic kid. Hoping he can recover soon.

Oh good one. Yeah I'm sure he will be fine too. I just hope Jabari makes it through the whole year next year.

Roe injured his knee in high school. Payne's small lungs were always there. His injury also happened before he arrived on campus. Completely left out Lucas's Achilles, and I believe Lucious had an injury in there somewhere too.

Byrd's foot and Kaminski's shoulder also happened before they got to MSU.

  • Rexrode says it's the best-case scenario and he'll be out for 2-3 weeks. THANK YOU, JESUS.

EDIT: Way too slow on my part.
