Gatsby (movie)

I'll see anything that Leo is in.

He's the best actor (in his prime) working now.

  • I didn't read this one in high school (though I did read a short story of his (the name of which escapes me)) and I loved "This Side of Paradise" when I read it at MSU. I'm a huge fan of his writing and am definitely going to read his works when I get a chance. That said, this trailer looked disappointing and, based on comments on reddit and youtube, I'm not the only one who feels this way. I was really looking forward to this movie, but not so much anymore. You can't judge a movie based on the trailer and I'm hoping that the movie is not nearly as ridiculous and over-the-top as the trailer suggests it is.

cover of U2's "love is blindness" at 1:26 of the trailer.

Sung by Jack White! That song is the best part of the trailer. From the comments I've seen so far there are clear "I love it, can't wait to see it" vs. the "how dare he do this to an American classic" camps.

  • Not a big Leo fan, but not a hater either. Does not look terribly great for me. I have a hard time seeing Leo at Gatz compared to Redford's version. The 70's movie with Redford and Mia Farrow I though was very well done.

Also, having just watched J.Edger with Leo I'm not eager to see much more Leo films. He was okay at J.Edger but the underlying storyline about J.Edger being gay, which is based entirely on unfounded rumers and based on a book by a discreted author, ruined an otherwise good story about one of the countries most interesting leaders.

  • Gatsby has the only passage that has ever made me cry. I've never felt more of a connection to being a Midwesterner.

It's towards the end when Nick is recalling his college days during Christmas break. He talks about sitting in Union Station with his friends and taking the frost-covered trains back to Minnesota, and how he loved seeing all the little towns as he drove through the prairies. It's a beautiful passage and worth copy-and-pasting in here if anyone can locate it.
