Gholston Article on CbsSports

  • Great article on Gholston by Bruce Feldman from CBS. Give it a read. I had no idea about some of the issues that he faced growing up.

Yep, Feldman does a great job usually. I love his stuff most of the time. The articles you see from outside the 4-Letter network are more than favorable to MSU usually.

  • From the article:

"Even while he was on the sidelines, he couldn't believe what he did," said Collins. "He was in tears because he felt like he had a let a lot of people down. He did something in haste. He was crushed over it. It was almost like he blacked out.

"He does not want to ever let anybody down. That's his worse thing. He is such a pleaser."

    -------

This is very true. He was really upset with himself on the sidelines. Worthy came over a few times to help talk him back up. Coach Stanton and Coach Gill also talked him up. Coach D chewed him out when he first got to the sidelines, but then gave him a nice talk right before he ran back onto the field.

  • Great article. Will is definitely one of my favorite players and i absolutely love how hated he is among UM fans. It only adds to his greatness.

They'll tell you how two other Big Ten programs contacted Michigan State after the Michigan game to inform them about cheap shots by the Wolverines that they also documented."

I forgot to mention that i love how we decided not to punish him. It really just felt like a great showing of support for Gholston while at the same time a total middle finger to all the bullshit UM fans/media.

    2. Was that "small college coach" allowed to be there? Delany should investigate.

    3. Packed on 40 pounds of muscle? Barwis says thats impossible, must be 'roids. Delany should investigate.

    4. Dantonio supported him after he attempted of murder? Delany should investigate.

    5. His high school coach is a grad assistant? Delany should investigate.

  • What's odd about the "Gholston Punch" is that Lewann had absolutely no reaction to it. He just slogged back to the sideline. I think partly because he knew he deserved it for cheap-shotting Gholston on more than one occasion, and because, quite frankly, Taylor Lewan wants NO part of William Gholston.

  • I still find it unbelievable that one whiny fanbase could start such a furor over something so minor; just makes me despise them even more. I'm glad other schools came to MSU with their similar accounts of Lewan's behavior.

He drew the flag. Mission accomplished. No reason to draw one himself.

The way he reacted it looked like he was trying to act like the punch really caught him and he had to shake it off. It was an acting job to sell the flag because Will pretty much just clipped his facemask.

  • I had a feeling this would pop up just across the internet a ways, and I was right. There's already an mgoblog thread tearing down this article and why Gholston is in fact, an attempt of murderer. Multiple armbar references are involved.

Not all of them buying the need for it, to their credit.

I can't wait for Will to drag his balls across Denard's face in front of them all.

Love that. Every program not named UM fucking hates UM.

It's a very good comment. I honestly think that Gholston's punch at Taylor Lewan was the least of his offenses that day. The neck-twist on Denard (a move intended to injure that was barely short of assault and battery) and the original arm-bar on Lewan (also with intent to injure) were far worse.

Don't forget Marcus Rush's personal foul roughing the passer penalty on Denard, which would surely have earned Rush a fine were it committed in the NFL.

Feldman nicely glossed over Gholston's friend mentor coach fixer "guy" Archie Collins, who steered Gholston to MSU and promptly got a Spartan job for his efforts.

Will Gholston; quite possibly the only only extravagantly-talented 5-star whom I am glad went to MSU. A sociopath.

It is a thug program that Dantonio and Narduzzi are running. "Sixty minutes of unneccessary roughness." Feldman missed that charmer of a quote; Jim Delany didn't. I just wish that a videographer from the Saints could get to spend more time with Sparty.

  • I'm happy for him and I don't really care what he does personally and on his own time and the actual situation, but am I the only one who sees that it is kind of messed up that his parents care to have a good relationship with him NOW? lol Like, come on.

I'm sure he was going a cheap flag all game. Probably expecting to get a shove, but when 2 tall snapped shit got real.

  • They're still crying over "unnecessary roughness?" What a bunch of losers. The Big Ten has always been about beating the piss out of each other for 60 minutes each Saturday. Boofuckenhoo. I don't care what any politically correct hatchet man says, that was a great quote.

Oh, he's an instigator for sure, but I don't think he expected to get punched in the face.

  • Excellent read. Wow.

I was interested to read that Gholston recognized his mistake, his "letting the team down" IMMEDIATELY after punching Lewan in the UM game. I will never forget that moment afterwards because I did not see the punch but I'm a huge WG fan and usually look for #2 on the field. I was watching the play, heard the whistles, and I saw Gholston jogging to see Coach Narduzzi on the sidelines. For a minute I thought he was injured because of his urgency. He ran up to the coach, helmet unbuckled, and they kind of embraced each other. Gholston was just shaking his head and really upset about something. I heard the ref announcing a personal foul over the speakers and thought "Great, what now?? There have been an assload of flags on this team today" but had no idea he threw that punch. When I got home and watched the highlights is when I saw it and when it all clicked. Now that I'm reading this article about how distraught he was it's all kind of clicking again and I believe it when he says (and they say) how badly he felt about it because I saw the guy respond in those following moments and it was genuine disappointment in himself.

My favorite part is the hypocrisy of Michigan fans who seemed to be OK with their player grabbing Dan Persa by the facemask and ripping his helmet off or their player punching a Notre Dame player in the facemask a few games prior. It's only "attempt of murder" when it happens to them lol What a bunch of pussies.
