  • Alabama would be in the Rose Bowl?

    How do you get that?

Alabama will be playing for the National Championship (perhaps against Clemson or Okie St.) while we will be in the Rose Bowl.

  • Even if Stanford makes the NCG there's almost no chance 'Bama will be in the Rose Bowl:

    1. The SEC will be putting at least one team in the BCS Championship.
    2. The SEC conference champion gets an automatic bid to the Sugar Bowl.
    3. The bowls that lose their conference champions to the NCG get first choice. It would be a no-brainer for the Sugar Bowl to pick whichever team out of Alabama/LSU that doesn't go to the NCG.

The only conceivable way Alabama would make the Rose Bowl would if neither them nor LSU make the national championship game, and they/LSU lose in the SEC Championship. The odds of both of those happening are extremely low.

The only way MSU would play 'Bama at all is if neither team makes a BCS game. While the season is far from over, that's looking unlikely. On top of that, the results of last year's bowl game would hurt the ticket sales and TV ratings for a rematch, and no bowl would be stupid enough to sabotage their own revenue stream.

  • If we go undefeated the rest of the way I am fine for us getting an ass kicking from them again.

Like people have already said though...it's pretty doubtful we meet up with Alabama in a bowl game unless it's the BCSCG and that would require a bunch of teams to lose.

  • Yeah... it was a joke.

I don't give a flying fuck about the BCS or national titles. I want to go to the Rose Bowl.

Wanna wager? USC doesn't stand a chance in that game. I've been saying it for 2 years now: Stanford and Oregon are the only teams in the country at the level of the SEC West powers.

The safe money at this point is that somebody beats OK St., Stanford beats Oregon at home and we get an SEC West vs. Stanford BCSCG. If that happens and we make the Rose Bowl, whom do we go up against? Clemson? Oregon? Oklahoma? The Rose Bowl took TCU last year so they're off the hook on having to take Boise this year. The SEC West runner up presumably goes to the Sugar.

anything can happen on any given sunday...just look at the past bowls when lowly Utah took out Alabama in a bowl, Boise State's bowl wins. TCU's bowl win last year.

Anything can happen when a team is given almost two months off from football and all you have to do is lay it on the line for just one game.

Why not us? Why not MSU?

Oregon already lost to LSU and Stanford is a very well coached team with an outstanding QB, but they simply dont match up with the SEC group this year defensively or athletically.

They are both solid, BCS level teams, but they are not playing at a national championship level this year.

There is a clear distinction between the level of play on Defense between Alabama/LSU and everyone else this year and that would be the difference.

just like a few years ago when bama and florida were the two best teams...unfortunately, they were not selected to play each other in the bcs championship game. Florida went on to play cincinatti and just throttled them. It also sucked because florida dropped way down in the rankings to #5, I believe just because they lost to the #1 team in the country in the sec title game.

if there is any justice at all in this bcs title game and they're about doing the right thing...bama and lsu play in the bcs title game.

I'm not saying Bama/LSU wouldn't win, but as Oregon proved last year against Auburn, they're right there at that level. Stanford has the best offensive line in the country. They're possibly the only team that could keep Bama/LSU from disrupting their normal offensive gameplan. Have you actually SEEN Stanford play? Anyway, SOMEbody plays against the SEC in the championship, and the Pac-12 has by far shown to be the best competitor with them over the years.

Throw in Luck's Heisman candidacy and it's just really hard to imagine any team other than an undefeated OK St. taking the 2nd championship spot over undefeated Stanford.

    So:

    Bama/LSU vs. Stanford
    Sugar: Bama/LSU vs. ?
    Fiesta: Oklahoma/OK ST vs. ?
    Orange:? vs. ?
    Rose: MSU (optimistic) vs. ?

How does it shake down? Your 5 ?s are Ok/Ok St. loser, Boise, Clemson, WVA?, and who's the last spot...Oregon or Wisconsin or Nebraska. Maybe Houston. Anyway, i don't know the picking order this year, but since the Rose got TCU last year i thought they are off the hook. MSU would end up playing against Clemson or Oregon or the 2nd B12 school.

Looking at it closer, i think that MSU with their SOS also has a decent chance at a BCS at large even if they end up 10-2.

There aren't enough opportunities for cross-regional games between top teams as tehres is.. Nobody is going to want to see Bama vs. LSU again any more than they wanted to see OSU vs. scUM again 10 years ago. The championship and bowls are the only real chance we get to measure conferences against each other. Nobody takes the pre-conference NU vs. Vandy games seriously.
