Gotta deal with it. They've won the last three.

since when is the team thats tied for #1 in the big ten a bubble team?

They aren't tied. And what are we , 6 games in? And they have played a whopping two road games , and lost both. Ok , cool story brah.

UM, Green Bay and Chicago teams all have one thing in common: They all suck

  • Perfect game tonight for Beilein's team. Jump out to a quick lead, and hang on for dear life. They won this a lot like they won the NU game at home. Some timely hustle like the fast break lay up from their center running past the 5* recruit Payne in the first half that earned Payne a seat on the bench and at the end it was a few poorly defended plays that cost MSU this win.

There is no more gap. While Izzo still gets highly rated players, the recruited talent gap isn't enough anymore. I was one who chuckled when Novack and Douglas were the headliners of that recruiting class but those 2 have been responsible for 2 wins over MSU in the last 2 seasons.

Only thing left to do win the rematch in East Lansing.

Some of you are simply in denial. When we beat UM in anything three times in a row, we claim superiority. We don't say we've "closed the gap", do we?

Same rules apply. There is no gap to speak of at this moment. These programs are on equal footing now, but if UM wins on Feb 5, I'm not sure how to claim that we're on equal footing, unless we want to point our past success. 0-4 is 0-4. I know what I say when my team wins 4 in a row against a rival.

FTR, if uofm beats us at home, then they are the superior program for the next year at least. Absolutely no way to argue against it unless we somehow end up in the FF.

You guys, I'm a huge MSU fan, but you've got to face facts. um is a good basketball team and I am more and more impressed by beline. MSU has had a great year, and I think that come tournament time MSU will be the better team, but we are in rebuilding mode and um is really hitting their stride, and they're going to be better next year. We played the game we wanted to play, and yea we choked down the stretch, but um beat us and they were the better team. Don't do this "they suck, fouls, bubble team, both teams suck, blah blah blah". No, both teams are good. The fouls weren't great, but you've got to take a road win and MSU didn't take it, it's tough to win on the road. I'm pretty sure we're going to kick their ass next time we see them, and I'm pretty sure we'll do a lot better in the tourney, but um is good and we better get used to this rivalry, because with the players they are bringing in they aren't going anywhere and are poised to make some serious noise in the future.

Just a question, how where they a better team? They won by 1 at home with a +8 FT advantage, and played what the anncrs who've been calling their games thought was their best game yet. They win by 10 or more, you can state that case. But a 1-point home win, with a FT shooting advantage and the benefit of having zero guys in foul trouble when you are a very thin team vs. the leading scorer being in foul trouble for the other team... that does not tell me you are better.

  • The only thing that worries me is the rebuilding is going to take a few years?

Are the Spartans ever going to make a final four ever again? God I hope this is not the fraud 5 era again without the cheating.

I'd say they'd have the better team, but we would still have the better program until they show they could get farther than us in March IMO. That is in no way an indictment on Michigan. I think they're building a very good program there, it's just tough to discount what Izzo has done in March.

They made 4 more free throws than we did. That's about as narrow a foul margin as you're ever going to get on the road against a decent opponent in this league.

  • I avoided all sports media after Sunday's NY Giants win and now I won't bother reading any sports pages or listen to the sudden explosion of "Always been a umaa fan" stiffs flooding the airwaves.

Beilein finally has a practice facility and he got himself a freshman PG who plays very well at home.

Lets hope the boys come out a tad warmer on Feb 5 in East Lansing and win that one.

    And your point?

It petty to shoot down their accomplishments by saying we have a bad team. Which you only label as "bad" because we lost to them.

  • The difference between MSU and UM fans: MSU fans can take a game that is often played twice per year and accept that after three games, their rival might be decent. Whereas pathetic UM trolls can take a game that is played once per year and COMPLETELY REFUSE TO BELIEVE that after four wins, their rival is anything close to decent. They excuse, belittle, and arrogantly look down on them as having been "lucky" every single time.

  • What in the fuck are you guys smoking? UM could beat MSU again this year and no, no they wouldnt be in the same universe as MSU when it comes to programs. Head to head marchups are a fucking awful way to judge programs, especially in basketball where you play so many games a few games are irrelevant.

UM is not back. They haven't accomplished a fucking thing. Wake me up when they win the conference or make a final four.

I agree. We let one slip away tonight. This was the perfect time to catch UM. They are without Horford who will be back when we see them next time. Hardaway and Smotrycz have been in shooting slumps and it looks like Hardaway is fighting an ankle injury. They lose their point guard to the NBA and they actually upgrade the position with Burke. I never saw that coming this year but that kid is pretty good. UM is going to be tough even in the Breslin in a couple weeks. We better get used to it. I think this will be good for our program in the long run as we now have a real rivalry again with them.

We lose to an average team, I think its bad. Sorry you disagree. And this is after a wakeup call on saturday. DON'T DOWNPLAY THAT CONTRIBUTING FACTOR.

Back? to what , mediocrity? Some schools have standards , and losing a close game to a bubble team should not be 'the standard'. This game tonight made one thing clear: both teams are not very good.

Darn, and me out of down votes.

Michigan does have the hardest schedule in the B1G left. 7 road games. OSU and Illinois twice. Indiana. At Michigan State. They are not a great road team.

More than football, basketball really is a marathon and not a sprint. After 5 games in football you can pretty much look at what you did and how you did it and guess pretty accurately what's going to happen and maybe be two games off max. After 18 I look at MSU and u of m in Bball and I have no idea. I can see us losing 5 more big ten games even up to 6 and I can see u of m losing up to 6 more. I also see them and us losing as few as two more.

I had us to finish at 12-6. ScUM clearly will not finish that high, they have 2-3 more losses at home and are 0-2 on the road where they might not even win a road game.
