Great article about Draymond in the SF Enq. Re:today's game

  • Nice article, sounds like he's fitting in well and already vocal in leading the team. True Spartan.

Warriors' Draymond Green has IQ to fit in

The rookie from Michigan State, who was passed on with the first 34 picks in last month's draft, was the glue guy during the Warriors' shaky first half and the instigator of their dominant second in a 95-74 summer-league victory over Denver on Saturday. All he did was finish his career as the school's leading rebounder and second in blocked shots and steals. During his career, he led the Spartans in scoring 31 times, rebounding 78 times and assists 45 times. Green averaged 16.2 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.5 steals to earn NABC Division I Player of the Year honors as a senior. The Warriors are still looking to sign a backup power forward from the free-agent pool and are said to be heating up talks with Carl Landry, who is represented by the same agent (Mark Bartelstein) as restricted free agent Brandon Rush. Green is exactly the kind of player executive board member Jerry West was discussing when he said the team needed to add toughness before the draft.

Draymond Green is too small to play power forward.

He's too slow to play small forward.

And, he's too stinking good to keep out of the Warriors' lineup.

"He's a basketball player, and we love him," general manager Bob Myers said. ...

"His basketball IQ is far beyond any rookie I have ever seen come into this league," said assistant coach Pete Myers, who played nine seasons and has been a coach or scout in the league since 1999. "He knows himself, he has a mental toughness and a physical competitiveness. It's going to be hard to keep him off the floor." ...

"I've been really impressed with what I've seen," power forward David Lee said. "I know he can make that trailer jumper, but he can make a huge impact on the game without shooting at all.

"If you want a rebound, a loose ball or to have a screen set, you want Draymond Green."

woot Also love it that the picture is 1st-round pick Harrison Barnes getting his pocket picked. lol

  • I somehow did not know he was second all-time in blocks and steals. Not bad for someone who was pretty awful on D for the first three years of his career.

  • I love the way he is yelling out commands to the other players on defense. Shows how smart he is and how high his basketball IQ is. Izzo already has a good reputation for coaching players but Draymond and his success will only help future Spartans with being drafted higher (or lower depending on how you see it.)

I wonder what the economic impact is on MSU and the community from Draymond? Pretty cool thought.

The two of them seem to get along really well. Barnes seems kind of like a prick, but I think he respects Green and realizes the benefit he'll be to his young career.

rumor Doesn't hurt that the guy picking Barnes' pocket looks so much like Chris Allen.

I figure it's awfully hard to dislike Day Day. Even if you are a Tar Heel.
