Greatest lost talent

In music, many fantastic lost their lives while in their prime or even before it. Think of all the great music that these artists could have made later in life. So who do you think is the greatest lost talent? I vote Nick Drake.

So many. Joplin and Hendrix come immediately to mind. If we go back far enough, Buddy Holly. Another great loss was Frank Zappa although he had a long career.

+1s for Tupac. One of my favorite artists of all time. Its incredible how many good songs he put out in such a short career.

I kinda think that dying was the best thing to happen to Nick Drake's music legacy. He never did concerts and was very rarely seen in public and in the press and that really turns a lot of people off in addition to the lack of exposure.

So many musicians die from drinking, drugs and suicide that I would submit that the fact that they don't "have any more albums left in them" plays a role in their reckless behavior. Better to burn out than fade away.

Yes, dying left him with the legacy he has today and do to his lack of being able to do concerts (he used to not even face the crowd), I doubt he would have became popular. But I really wish there was more than just his three albums.

Not in the music category, but I've always wondered about Chris Farley. Guy was hilarious. Had he lived I'm sure he would have eventually cleaned up and started making really bad movies (kind of like Adam Sandler).
You're in college. The window of opportunity to drink and do drugs and take advantage of young girls is getting smaller by the day.

This topic begins and ends with Buddy Holly. Not only did he personally put out some great music, he was a profound influence for years and years on major artists who followed. Some of the names mentioned here had an influence that lasted maybe 5 minutes.
