Don't even know how to share this with everyone. I'll try my best as I'm just shocked at how life can change in an instant. My family (my wife and my 2 kids) had one of my wife's best friends and her daughter over our house tonight to play games and ring in the new year. Things went great. Midnight comes and we all welcome in 2013. My wife's friend and daughter are getting ready to go home (they live about 10 minutes away from us) and our friend has a voicemail from the Ottawa county sheriff on her cell phone. She calls them back and they ask where she is currently located. She tells them our address and they are here in about 10 minutes after she called back. The sheriff comes to our house to tell her that her husband was killed in a car accident earlier this evening.
Her husband was going to a new years eve party to meet with some former co-workers to attempt to get a new job and he was struck by a driver who ran a stop sign here in Ottawa County.
My heart is aching for the 8 year old little girl who is spending the night at our house while Mom figures out what to do next. I'm in tears typing this thinking that her Daddy will not walk her down the aisle when she gets married, let alone see her grow up. Here I was all pissed off that MSU lost earlier today and this just makes something like that pale in comparison. Remember to tell those you love how much they mean to you.

Someone tweeted that last night was the worst night to drive ever. Drunks will kill you. Sorry for your friends loss.
Let me guess, the drunk fuck only suffered minor injuries

Appears alcohol was not a factor. At least based on the comments section.

My heart goes out to you and the family.
As a Life Insurance agent part of my job is to deal with death, please take a minute and review your policies or get one if you don't have one. her first thoughts will be "do I have any money".
holy crap man that is tragic....so sorry for your loss. prayers and best wishes go out to you Uncle NitNots
Wow, my condolences. Nobody should ever have to go through that, especially not on a night that's supposed to be about celebration.

This is terrible. Condolences to the family and all affected. Life is so precious; things can truly change in an instant. Poor Guy was just looking for work.
