Harris Ranked #1 Receiver for Class of 2014

  • Ringer23 said...

So who has watched this kid play? Any comparisons?

His build is a lot like Sidney Rice.

In Green and White he will look a lot like Charles Rogers. Not sure if he can get up to the weight Plaxico was at. Rogers was a little slighter.

Not sure if this was posted elsewhere, but he got an official offer from OSU today.

Wow that is late for a talent like Harris.

  • Is there any other link for his junior highlights other than that one?!?! :((((((((((

Honestly, he's a lot like Charles Rogers (just not as fast). Still, smooth as hell, great hands, long (but not particularly strong), and a deep threat.

I'd say that's a pretty good comparison right now, though he may end up a little taller than Chuck.

  • Watching his highlights it reminds me of aj green of the bangles. Both are tall lengthy receivers who are great deep threats and adjust to the ball very well in the air. Both look like they glide when they run and make acrobatic catches regularly.

Even if I had zero intention of attending OSU, I'd be thrilled to get an offer as a football player in my Junior year. The more big-time offers you pull in, the more hype you get on the national scene. That hype is good for young Mr. Harris and it's good for MSU. There's a very distinct possibility he'll end up a five-star in both sports.

  • Did anyone really think that we'd get an early commitment by one of the best players in the country and then not have anyone else try to chase him down. Esp after watching the tire-fire that was our offense this year?

Best bet is that we hang onto him by now.. Step up our offense next year and then see where he sits a year from today..

Just hope he doesn't compare our offense with tO$U's (not looking good for us if he does).

I'd look to Utah or FL's offense to see how WR's were featured to gauge where he would fit in better, rather than tO$U. subUrban is still implementing with his recruits, and Miller is a better passer than anyone he recruited in FL.

WR's in FL were mostly small speedsters and his offense prominently features the WR's on rushing plays and the RB's tend to get a lot of the receptions. Not to say that is all that happens, but that is where they tend to go. Happened at Utah with Warren, Moa and Savoy (had a lot of receptions as well, but were dual threat receivers). Happened in FL with Harvin, Burton, Rainey, Demps, Caldwell, and Jackson.

This year at o$u the offense was basically - Miller drop back, then run. He threw for 2000 yards and 15 tds in his 3rd season on the field. Maxwell threw for 2600 yds and 13 tds in his first year with about a 25% drop rate. Not defending AM by any means, but to think that you are going to go to o$u and be featured more prominently as a WR is crazy. Past patterns will predict future performance. If anything - we will upgrade at QB one way or another and someone who can actually catch the ball will see the field immediately.

Past patterns will also probably predict future sanctions, too..IMHO.

Yeah, I just don't see the allure of playing WR at OSU. Why would a top WR want to go to a place where he is going to spend a bunch of his playing time blocking for a running QB?

I hope he does take a serious look at the two.

    Maxwell Attempts: 446
    Miller: 254

Sure Maxwell only had 600 more yards in all those attempts, but it's still a shitload of pass plays. If we have guys like Drake that don't drop every other pass Maxwell throws our offense will look a lot better.

Really. That's the first comment about this guy I can get my arms around. CR was an amazing college receiver--best I've ever seen in an MSU uni. His talent was freakish.

I hope we hang onto him. I think it's going to be a nail-biter.

An there should be more passing attempts next season with an unproven RB.

Maybe those numbers will matter to a high school player, but they are nothing to write home about.

12-0 is something to write home about.

On the way up the tunnel following the game, I asked Harris whether he is still committed to Michigan State.

"Oh, yeah," he said. "I'm solid."

But what if Alabama starts calling?

"They already are -- a lot," he said. "I'm solid."

He seems like he really had a connection with the coaches - that he appreciated that our guys were the ones who sought him first and saw his potential. I'm feeling really good about Harris - I have this gut feeling that he is going to be talking to other schools, but he'll be solid at MSU.

I have a feeling having Izzo there is one of the biggest parts of his commitment, but he seems to know what he wants and he knows he'd fit into MSU's system and not have to struggle for PT.

Rogers had the highest ceiling of any receiver I've seen wear an MSU uniform. That includes Rison, Burress, etc. Charles Rogers had the potential to be Randy Moss II. If his collarbones hadn't broken I wonder if his story would have been a lot different.
