Nation's No. 2 pro-style quarterback in the Class of 2014 has an interesting connection to the Michigan State staff ...

  • wow, how lucky is it that Narduzzi was roomates with his dad...Nardog's been recruiting for MSU since he has been in college and he didnt even know it

  • Sooooooo many QB prospects. Wow.

  • You can't bring in a QB in every class and expect them all to stay.

With Connor Cooke, Tyler O'Connor, Damian Terry, and a 2014 kid, you would have to expect at least one of them to go the transfer route.

Cook will be a RS Jr in 2013. The 2014 kid will redshirt in 2014. So his real competition is Terry and O'Connor.

In my opinion, both Terry and O'Connor are good enough athletes that we could even move them around like Nichol if there was no chance one would start at QB.

I can't see Cook seeing the field. He was atrocious in the spring game. Sad but true.

A redshirt freshman with 0 real game experience was less than stellar playing for both teams with split up offensive lines and new WRs against the best defense in the conference?

    Color me shocked.

a RS Freshman struggling against one of the best defenses in the NCAA?

Yep might as well cut him now

Yes but the defense was split over both sides of the ball. In fairness, so was the OL. And so was he. Cook just looked terrible in that game. You were impressed with him?

Our split-team defenses would easily be top 4 in the conference.

Cook settled down and was a bit better in the second half. Also, keep in mind he was playing for both teams, so he constantly had to adjust for different calling, different receivers and blocking.

Good lord. This is your conclusion after watching the spring game? Atrocious? Can't see him on the field based on the spring game? Really?

When did I say I was impressed?

I said he struggled against a very good D

I'm not sure Cook was ever meant to be QB1 at MSU. He has always seemed like a career backup guy to me. No, he was not impressive at the spring game.

To be fair, I said the same thing about Cousins. Meant to be a career backup and unimpressive in his first spring game (back when our defense was pretty terrible). Therefore, I'll give the kid a chance.

Speaking of camp, I’m here at Michigan State and camp is about to get started (slated for 11 a.m. kickoff). There looks to be over 300 campers in attendance but I think only a dozen or so are competing for a Spartans offer. Stay tuned.

    Hey Sean-

What's the camp today? I know yesterday was kickers....

  • The ?'s about Connor Cook in HS were arm strength, decision making and pocket presence.
His arm has become stronger as he has matured. The jury is still out on the other two.
There are no such ?'s about Tyler O'Connor.

We're in serious trouble if Maxwell goes down. I'd have more faith in a Damon Dowdell that this guy. I hope he gets better but he's really rough right now.

No question. Besides Dantonio and Co.’s rep for producing quality QBs in a pro-style attack, I think the press Kirk Cousins got around draft time has helped the sales pitch as well.

Yep our staff is starting to get a good rep with the development of qb's. Have to like that they helped Hoyer get to the league (have to give JLS credit too) and have three of the qb's they recruited from the 2007 class in the NFL now (Cousins, Nichol, and Foles).

Nice streak of Smoker, Stanton, Hoyer, Cousins and hopefully Maxwell making it to the NFL will give us the chance to use the line that scuM used about having all their starting qb's make it to the NFL. Hated it, but had to give them credit for the long streak they had.

This kid looks to be a stud and hopefully starts our 2014 class off.

hoke- to alter or manipulate so as to give a deceptively or superficially improved quality or value.

And MSU is hard charging after what could be a top 2015 QB.

MSU is going to take the best QB they can get each class. No one knows how things will pan out, so you cover the board.

I wouldn't be surprised of Terry and OConnor pass him. They both look like great prospects, Terry in particular. And that's not at all sad. It's just the level of talent coming into the program.

But that could be two years in the future, so it's a little premature writing up that depth chart right now.
