Hoke seems realistic about UM's line issues

  • msusnee said...

Smart move from his perspective. He really needs to lower expectations a little bit. At this point it seems like he could go 9-3 this year, which is pretty solid considering their depth issues and schedule, but the fans would be furious. They wouldn't even be disappointed, they would be pissed off.

if they go 9-3 this year i'll lead the campaign to give him coach of the year. ain't gonna happen.

  • How bad is their OL situation? Are they going to have to start frosh in their OL. My scUM fan neighbor was telling me they had 4 starters back. From this article it doesnt sound like it but my neighbor does has the tendancy to embelish. Maybe Big M can give us a synopsis of their OL. We know from our OL last year Frosh and Sophs can lead to problems.

They lose 2 starters (including their best OL by far) and their depth. Their new center hasn't played center since 9th grade. And they lose their best blocking TE.

  • Their starting OL should be serviceable enough but if they lose even 1 guy then things are gonna get dicey.

Of course, they will probably not lose anybody.

I would honestly get an erection if, on our first drive against them, just ran the ball. 12 straight plays. MD just staring across the field at the other sideline without a word.

    Yes please.

That's exactly why he will never last at Meeechigan. They have to have someone leading them as arrogant as they are.

Hoke plays the aw-shucks game with the press. This is the same guy who wont allow any hat without a block M to be in his presence and turned the given name of a school into a profanity. He's plenty arrogant.

That doesn't seem consistent with MSU's experience.

He had the first TD last year off of slipping a tackle or two in the backfield and a couple of other decent runs, but yeah we have his number compared to everyone else.

I'm saying 8-4. Losses to Alabama, @ ND, Vs MSU and @ OSU.

I think they'll find a way to win one of the five tough ones (@ UNL)

  • I think the Alabama game could define their season and not just the scoreboard. The potential for Saban's boys to injure the OL/DL or even Denard should not be discounted. And as already noted, any such injuries will really put them in a bad place.

Michigan returns 4 of the starters from the beginning of the season, Ricky Barnum got injured, but he'll return and move to center this year. I think the O-Line will be fine this year without more than 1 injury, I wouldn't be surprised if it was better than last year.

I expect the D-Line to struggle, and if Mattison/Montgomery can make it solid, it will be as amazing as the turn around the entire defense made from 2010 to 2011.

All in all, Hoke hasn't complimented anything from the team except energy levels in either of his 2 spring practices. He doesn't want the team to be complacent.

Hey, remember this? You have the dirtiest player in the big ten on your oline, and Gholston has been waiting a lonnnnnggggg time to get back at the team that wrote those letters to the big ten office about him. So have all of his teammates. The best part about that game was that 1. We kicked your ass and 2. Afterward you guys were such crying nancies that it pissed our team off even more. It actually feels like we need to take something out on your nancy asses next fall, and the clock is counting down. It's gonna be a defense like you've never seen before, and they're going to have some very bad intentions. Buckle up.

9-3 is their ceiling. all it takes is one injury on OL and they are totally fucked. Look at what happened to us w/ Burkland v. ND last year - thank god we had Fonoti to step up - but even that took 4-5 games before it was really working. They would be using true freshmen and walk ons to replace guys, and who they have already is sketchy at best - and none will be starting at the position they played last year. I see 5 "WINS" on their schedule. which means they have to go 4-3 vs. bama, @ND, MSU, @UNL, NU, Iowa, @OSU. just looking at that bama, MSU, ND, UNL, and OSU look like losses to me. which would leave them at 7-5. Give them one of those five and they are 8-4. does anyone really think they can beat 2 of those five teams w/ 4 away from home? especially when ND, OSU, and UNL are going to be looking for some serious revenge?

The starting 5 should be good. 3 full time starters return, and Barnum was the starter at guard before getting injured. He is now the center. The other starter will probably be Mealer who is a 5th year senior- probably nothing better than serviceable but he shouldn't be a disaster. The depth is where it gets bad. There are only 2 non true freshman OL reserves right now.

  • I want to see no huddle for the first 3 series against their defense. With our depth on both lines we will wear them out by halftime and procede to resize their anus the rest of the game. I think this could be a bigger beatdown than 2010. We gonna poop on their shitty defensive front and run them into the ground.

All those penalty yards and key fumbles and all you could get was 14? lol. Hoke went for it twice on fourth down on that drive because he was was watching the same game I was. The play there, if Hoke had any confidence in your offense was to kick the field goal on the first fourth down, then play for a stop and then win the fucking game. Shit there was almost 8 minutes left on the first fiurth down But when you had about 25 real yards not aided by penalties or a fluke breakdown in the secondary you take your shot when you're lucky enough to have one. On the sidelines you could see and hear who was winning and even though it was a close score go back and read what the Michigan players said after the game about getting the crap kicked out of them. All that was left to do was write letters about how mean MSU was that day. Oh and don't for a moment think Dantonio doesn't have all the articles and letters ready to hand out to the boys that week next year. Especially because they clipped all the film on Lewand and how dirty he was and the article he was bragging about it in.

Get ready, buckle up nancies, it's going to be fucking brutal and beautiful.

Narduzzie = 60 minutes of ass kicking necessary roughness. lol.
