Hollis has no problem with MSU vs Scum being at night

  • Article on freep website, sorry didn't do a search. Go Green!

Also got the feeling that he is about "50-50" about having season ticket sales start up again July 1st.

MSU's Mark Hollis talks playoffs, basketball in Europe, Michigan game at night and more | Detroit Free Press | freep.com

Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis said today that Big Ten ADs have focused their meetings about college football playoffs on four-team models.

  • How can you have a problem with it? UM is allowed to move games, change jerseys (that look like bmble bees)

If I had my choice most big games would be at night and tailgating start at 7a... . Just like LSU and the SEC does.

Can you imagine the UM MSU rivalry going all night games and early tailgating, you think it's a lo tof heckling and arguing now.

    MLeagueGreen

  • It's kind of bs though. Just because it's at the big house they want it to be a night game. If it was at SS it would be a noon kickoff like usual.

  • One thing I've never quite understood is how everyone seems to just 100% assume it would be a very bad idea full of fights/ruckus etc.

We've played ND under the lights many times, aside from 2006 it has been pretty docile. LSU/Alabama was at night this year, a big rivalry. I think it would be awesome to try it once.

  • ND has its subway alumni but nothing like the Walmart wolves that show up on scums campus.
Not to mention the visitors from the community colleges that show up to party.

Since both are the big state schools it would be the most people in either EL or aa for a game

Also think of how many drunk slobs that would be driving on the roads that late.

It's a no brainer that Ann Arbor would be overridden by gangs if the game were played at night. I took the Michigan Flyer through ann arbor on my way to God's Country from the airport and there were detroit style boarded up crackhouses there. It was pretty disgusting to see. I expected more from that city.

  • How about the guy that Hollis indirectly called out:

"Though his role with the various NCAA committees, notably men's basketball, will take him away from East Lansing for at least 40 days a year, he said he has complete faith in his staff, which he said includes four or five individuals who could be athletic directors. He said his top deputy, Greg Ianni, knows how Hollis thinks and can represent his point of view. Plus, with technology, Hollis is never too far away."

4 or 5 individuals? That 5th individual is now thinking, "Oh shit...I better get my act together."

  • So the game next year is a night game? MSU could push for that or schedule it, however they see fit, ESPN would be fine with it.

At worst, it will be a BTN game.

At worst it will be on ESPN, you put MSU/UM at 8pm on a Saturday and most likely it is the game of the week. Hollis just needs to schedule it and force ESPN's hand, there is no way they turn those ratings down. if BTN got it, consider it a coup.

  • When someone gets assaulted in or outside the stadium and they sue the university for a lack of proper security, maybe he'll see a problem with it.

That's why we do it in AA. I'll wear a "Brady Hoke is God" shirt and "beat up" a volunteering State fan. We'll take that school for all its worth [wink]

Haha. I'm not saying it's because of MSU fans necessarily or that EL is that kind of place. That has nothing to do with it. It can happen anywhere and people will sue, especially some poor Walvie who is strapped up to an IV post beatdown and thinks he has a free ticket to a 56 inch TV, UFC DVD collection and another 5-10 years of sitting on his underemployed ass. Is playing Michigan at night in Spartan Stadium a cool idea? Of course. Is it a liability concern? Of course. Little debate about the second part. That's all I'm saying.

No, I know what you meant haha. Although that's a risk at every sporting event a school hosts. Sure the risks are elevated against those assholes, but who's to say some Boise fan won't run his mouth, get his ass beat and sue. I think it's a risk worth taking, but I absolutely see why administrators would be leery.

Everything will depend on the date of the game. Hence why I said, at worse, BTN.
