Hollis tweets advice to Trey Burke

I personally think Dave Brandon calling out Mark Hollis publicly like that is inappropriate.

  • M fans trying to scold us is getting pretty pathetic. First the Gholston punch, then coach D interrupting the M coach, now this. All of this stuff is blown way out of proportion by insecure M fans. Cry me a frickin river. Or burn in hell. Or both.

They sure give a lot of attention to their third or fourth most important rival, don't they? lol

This is why twitter sucks. Good advice or not, I think it was a bad decision for Hollis to do this. What's the point? Why is he even following Burke? Burke is lamenting about how "EVERYONE got something to say..." and then Hollis decides to offer his thoughts. Give your advice to Spartans.

The one enjoyable thing that has come from this is the utter lack of reading comprehension walvies have shown trying to cite the bylaw.

Not only is Hollis a ambassador for MSU he's also one for the B1G as well. If you go back and read his tweets you'll see that he has talked about and follows many non MSU players and coaches. He may be a serious candidate for the commissioner once Delaney's time is up.

and THEN, he can come back and coach someday!!!

    [LOL-ING OUT LOUD!!]

I agree with everything you said, just couldnt resist the opening for a dumbass comment.

This actually has been mentioned in the press... even perhaps a high position within the NCAA. He is growing a pretty good
    Rep.

BTW, I think MSU having a powerful, highly regarded AD is the real issue to M fans here. The want to think their guy is their next Don Canham, and get upset when they see their guys stature as it relates to Hollis' This is why they pump up the night game angle, or the Big House Hockey game angle as some accomplishment despite deep down they know Hollis did all of that first.

Talking other school's student athletes and reaching out to them with good honorable intentions despite athletic rivalry is something new for Michigan fans (and many other fans). Izzo does it, but not at the level Hollis did last night. Hollis, like Izzo, cares for the general state of college athletics as much as the state of their own program. They both know that all the program success in the world doesn't mean anything if the system they achieved that success is perceived as flawed, dirty, irrelevant, etc...

I imagine Michigan fans struggle with this notion due to the Michigan über alle philosophy that has been fed to them for years (and they are not alone in this) They have a hard time separating the program from the University; the Athlete from the kid or man. If they and others could honestly do this, they would at the least have no problem with the tweet. If Brandon did the same to Worthy, I'd probably would not be one attacking him.

I know some don't believe this, but there is more to college athletics than rivalry. It's important for all fans to remember this at times.

If Dawson was thinking of going pro and Brandon tweeted something to him, this board would have been in an uprage for Hollis to respond like Brandon did.

Impossible. How do you tell somebody to follow their heart with every third word being "I"?

What would Dawson do with "I think, I, er you, no I, yeah we're talking about me right"

The media in detroit is going to have a field day. There is nothing good about the Pistons, the wings are always consistent and both college teams are no longer in the bball or hockey tournaments. Also the Lions are going to have a low draft pick and to add the Tigers have not started.

Funny how he says that in Spartans' eyes, he went from an overrated point guard to an NBA-ready player, but in Wolverines' eyes he went from the best thing since the Fab Five to a guy that is too short, not good enough

  • I never read his blog, but it showed up on my twitter feed and was good for a laugh. Only had to scroll a few posts down to see "Why Brandon Inge should be on the Tigers opening day roster" and "Ultimately, the Spartans proved to be overrated". Now I don't know who's more delusional, Caputo or Walverines...

From my discussions with everyone on both sides he is the real deal but may be undersized for the next level. And I don't think that's changed.

  • Caputo just confirmed to me that he didn't do any research before posting that blog. Big surprise.

"@patcaputo98: @PRStoetzer What's he doing on Twitter checking out Burke's account. Is he following his own athletes that way. Where his advice for them?"

If he actually took the time to check, he'd have seen that Hollis follows many MSU athletes and tweets them pretty regularly. He also follows athletes from many other schools. Not just Michigan.

If tubby had any shred of journalistic talent or respect, he would have received information like Rexrode did staying Hollis and Burke have a relationship.

  • Now Caputo thinks that Hollis following other athletes on Twitter is a violation. Unbelievable.

"@PRStoetzer: @patcaputo98 Check it out. He follows his own athletes (and tweets them often) and many other athletes from other programs (not just Mich)."

"@patcaputo98: @PRStoetzer Well. if you really love your Spartans your AD, you might not want to share that latter part to NCAA"

    PRStoetzer

  • That's the biggest problem I have with the Blue Wall on this one. They are propagating the notion that Hollis' tweet was some random occurance.

He's placing too much importance on Brandon's tweet. Because of that, many people think that Hollis actually committed an NCAA violation.

  • What's with Caputo's absurdly blatant favortism towards UM? The basketball shit and now this. He's definitely pushing an agenda, and not just "ohhh blue wall!" kind of stuff. It's like his opinions are extracted straight from a UM version of tRCMB.
