Hope we didn't just cost Tubby his job

  • He's a great guy and has Minnesota very competitive even without their best player. Seems like his seat has been, at the very least, warm, though I don't know who the Gophers could bring in that would be better. A win tonight would have been huge for Minnesota's tournament chances, and with the loss they look like they need to finish the season very strong and win 2 BTT games on the safe side of the bubble.

Plus, he wore a damn bowtie. What a classy guy. I hope he sticks around in Gopher town for a long time.

Tubby has that job as long as he wants it.

If he's fired, he'll have the best available job in America in 24 hours.

Not many in the profession are more highly thought of than Tubby.

I feel the same way.don't get me wrong, glad we won. But I like tubby, he got shafted at Kentucky. I thought he was a great hire for minny and that opinion has not changed. It's got to be awfully hard to coach ball at minny.

  • There will be a nice house in Hasslett and a spot on our bench waiting for him to quietly end his career as a "consultant/recruitor".

Is that why he's at Minnesota now?

    He likes it there.

He could have had the Oregon job or pretty much any other big job (except Kentucky, obviously) that came open the past few years.

Tubby has a national title and is loaded. He doesn't need to chase the next job unless he really wants it.

  • Who the hell is Minnesota going to get that's better?

  • Tubby is a class act no doubt. The only thing about him and his coaching staff I don't understand is the fact they were all wearing the same suit with bow tie? Is there a story behind that?

  • He could take over at Northwestern.

  • I hope they don't fire him. He's a great coach. It's just tough to recruit to Minnesota. Then the last stellar recruit he got was a fuck-up and Tubby kicked him off the team before ever playing a game. Now that kid is tearing it up for Iowa State. Mbakwe goes down and he STILL manages to get a team competitive..

I believe they said on the broadcast was that it was to support prostate cancer awareness.

  • No way does Tubbs lose his gig with Mbakwe going down. Then again they did axe the best (mostly clean) football coach they've had in my lifetime because bowl games and 7-8 wins with a soft non-con were getting tiring.

Add 14 points and 10 boards at the PF and there's no doubt in my mind they are dancing.

Wow, Oregon?!?!? Well, you're right! If he can turn down a powerhouse hoops program like Oregon, then he really can get any job! Especially after how awesome he's done at Minny!

If you're a black coach at Kentucky you better win NC's. You do the math. Btw where was green going to go before he came here?

Turned down 3 million a year, an unlimited budget, and a brand new arena.

Oregon will be just fine in a few years.

Not many in the profession are more highly thought of than Tubby.

At some point, he's got to rise a bit further than middle of the Big Ten pack. He's had talented squads, and he's had more than his share of games like today where they give one away. He's got athletes on these teams, and fairly deep benches.
In his 5th year now at Minny, he hasn't finished higher than 6th in the Big Ten, never better than .500 in Big Ten play, and never advanced past the 1st rd of the NCAA tourney. If he was the head coach of another UofM, you'd think we was the worst coach in the league. He gets a pass because they were still clearing away the stink of probation before he arrived, and there is the general perception that he was poorly treated in the end at Kentucky.
However, 5 years in, it's fair to say he's had less success than one would have thought, even if it is Minnesota.
