How Long Does MD Need to Stay?

He has been outstanding and exceeded all of my expectations. I don't see him leaving for quite awhile. He is only 56.
How long does he need to cement his legacy like Alvarez did at Wisconsin?
I think 10 more years would do it. Maybe a little less.

15 years total was what I was thinking. Retire right at 65; decade+ of success with a clear succession plan in place, aka, NOT what happened after Duffy.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

10 more years starting next year is 16 years for MD. Same tenure as Alvarez.
BO coached at SCUM about 20 years. Ferentz has been at Iowa for 13 years. I doubt he will make 20.
MD can do it in 16 years total.

He's told people when he wants to retire, but for the sake of recruiting I don't think its good to talk about openly... obviously things can change, and he will see several more of the classes he recruited graduate.

Ok, pure speculation and pie in the sky... but when Nardog stayed, it made me wonder about whether (with MD's heart attack and all) there might have been something in the works. Personally, I'd love to see Mark stay as long as possible.

Forever and ever....I really hope we get at least 10 more years out of him and have someone who learned under him for multiple years take over....I will be sad when he goes but if we keep consistency with the coaches staying aroud multiple years we will be golden

Completely agree. All good things come to an end and people that expect TI and MD to be around in their late 60s are delusional.

I'd be fine with that. We've got depth like crazy right now, and he'll be able to maintain a high level of play for the next 4 years. It will be a very, very attractive roster to take over if he retires after 4 more years.
Selfishly, I'd like to see him go longer, but I'd be glad that he's getting out before he burns out, and takes some time to enjoy life. No doubt he'll be a high profile guy in the community repping MSU every step of the way.

A few years ago, I would have agreed, but I've gotten the impression lately that Izzo isn't leaving quite as soon as he had suggested before.

5 years at most? I don't see why both couldn't coach until they are 65. The average life expectancy for males is about 76. Neither have any major health issues and they love what they do.

For both Mark and Tom as long ar they are able and they have the fire needed to perform the job....Tom has already built MSU into something and has a number of MSU Men with coarching skills to replace him.....Mark needs a few more years to get ther if God is willing to give him that...

I think narduzzi has as much potential as any assistant in the nation. I'm convinced when Dantonio decides its time to hang em up that we will be left in capable hands.
