How about an explanation of why the site was down?

I understand your frustration, and the people working behind the scenes on the software do as well. Trust me, they're more bothered by these issues than you or I are.

they are so pissed they lock all threads mentioning it because they can't even stand looking at errors

IIRC the 247 overlords have in the past locked and deleted all threads relating to board outages, I assume they were "on top of things" as usual today...

No, that's me. We get it, there are site issues. We don't need a dozen threads.

    Just received this update:

    Everyone,

As you may have noticed, we have been experiencing intermittent and unexpected site slowness and error messages on the message boards. We apologize for this inconvenience and the team at 247Sports is currently working on fixing this problem.

In order to fix the issue, they will unfortunately have to take down the sites for maintenance later tonight. We don’t have an exact time on the site maintenance, but we’ve been told it will not happen before 11 p.m. CT. If they are ready to make the change that will fix this problem at 11, they’ll go at that time. The site maintenance is expected to take a few hours.

Thanks for your attention and we appreciate your patience tonight.

LOL, As you may have noticed?

PS They seem to do this a lot lol

locking redundant threads would kill tRCMB

locking threads on "why is the board down" looks super shady and upsets people even more

If I locked all of them you'd have a point. Having one, such as this very thread, is sufficient.

This was the last thread started on the topic, all the others were locked. It took an hour to get a response in this thread.

Clearly someone was locking all the other previous threads....why not respond instead of locking/deleting everything?

Perhaps, in the future editions of the software (and mind you I'm no rocket scientist message board designer), the developers could bake in the ability to send a "blast" to the main board of all the different teams' sites announcing maintenance and/or technical difficulty issues. Hell, even a courtesy email when the boards go dead acknowledging they are aware of the problem and working to fix it would be nice. Especially considering that there is a single unifying entity collecting all the money, and hosting and operating all of the boards, databases, etc.

I'm not a staff member of 247 or of the individual sites. I'm a user mod of tBB and that's it.

Nope. I'm fine with having one thread if there are issues though. If they're ridiculous threads, they serve no purpose.

    Good suggestion.

Thank you, Trevor. I appreciate that.

I have a good idea that this represents a huge pain in your ass and all of the negative energy that gets dumped on the forum when this happens doesn't do any good. But for the good and the bad of it... you're the suggestion box around here. Everywhere else is a vacuum.

You may disagree, but in my opinion, the users and subscribers to this site have every right to be frustrated with the current state of affairs.

I have suggested in the past... a forum to discuss site development issues. In the open. Suggestions. Feedback. Comments. Timelines. There are hundreds of savvy people with good ideas such as mine. There are likely many who also have technical skills that could help to accelerate the stabilization of this place.

All we have are our ideas and suspicions about the inadequacies of this site (247). We are told that great things are in the works, but if we press for any details, we are banned (permabanned @tBB). Maybe 247 is keeping everything under wraps for some sort of competitive or financial advantage. But the only thing we have that is tangible is the trajectory of what we are able to observe on a daily basis here. And that trajectory is more "Houston we have a problem" and less "message board nirvana here we come."

You can't fault us for being upset by that.

And in closing, it adds insult to injury that their error page includes an advertisement.

Ridiculous threads? Like those about how much 247 expects people to pay for a site years behind current message board technology?

I locked most of them last night. I left this one because it wasn't titled "this site sucks" or any of the other ridiculous titles. Hell I even e-mailed Noah to post here that they were having issues.
