FWIW, I'm pretty sure it takes way less energy to heat the air than water. Then it's harder even to heat the land, or actual earth itself.
Since anything which is easy to heat up, also loses heat easily as well. So the air temperature can swing easier cause it gives it up.
It takes a while to heat up the water, then it holds onto it longer.
Not too sure how much the land actually loses heat, since it takes so much to heat it and it really doesn't want to give it up.

Update, water is officially 80 at S Haven now according to WOOD tv8 High temps MUST have a huge bearing on it getting this warm in early July Just came off our inland lake for supper, water is warmest I have ever measured currently 90.6 barely refreshing.
