How hard is it to mount a TV?

I have the mount, should I just pay someone to do this?
If so what does it cost and who do you guys recommend in metro Detroit area?

I just mounted my neighbor's 60 inch and have never done it before. I'll let you know if I hear a crash and then I'll tell you how easy it is.

Unplug it first to prevent any elec issues, but then just try to sneak up on it from behind.

This is the correct answer. I have a TV that is mounted in my room in my apartment. It's nice since it can be moved to point at my desk or bed.
You need to find a stud though or the whole TV will crash down since it will just be hanging on dry wall. Basically knock on the wall and if it's hollow you're just hitting drywall. If it's not hollow you are going to be hitting a stud (they often line up with electric outlets anyways). You can test it by hammering a couple nails and seeing if you hit air or stud.

I mounted my 46" in about an hour. The level of difficulty willl depend on a few things: the design of the bracket, the location of the connections on the wall, and the weight of the TV. It's easier if you have a helper.
For me, once I found the studs, all I had do was put four lag bolts in and hang the TV on the bracket.

I just hung a 40incher in our gym. It isn't hard to actually hang the TV but what are you doing with the cords ? I thought I was all slick putting the cords in the wall behind the TV and coming out near the outlet. According to code you cannot run a power cord behind the wall. You actually have to put a outlet up behind the TV which I didn't do. So, I have the HDMI running through the wall and the power just runs down below the TV. I wasted 2 hours and realized it after I was done.

Any man should be able to mount a TV on his own within half an hour.
Proper tools will include:
Stud finder,
Pencil,
Level,
Hand drill with a socket head to match your screws
Find and mark the studs near where you want the mount to go. Then align the bracket using your level. It usually has several slots and pick the slots which line up with your studs. Then use your hand drill to install the screws. You may want to first drill pilot holes.
As noted by Cavaricci, if you do not have an outlet directly behind your TV at it's elevation, your cords will hang below it. You can run them through some conduit if you wish. Or use zip ties to tie them together.

My apartment has metal studs, which I understand are not useful for mounting a TV (they apparently will collapse under the weight). Through internet research, I found the Toggler Snaptoggle wall anchors, which the company claims are strong enough to mount a TV on drywall or metal studs.
Does anyone have any experience with these to know whether or not they work?
