10 years. This was my first phone. It was badass.

Same number since fall of '00

Same number for 26 years. Can't remember the model of the phone but it was permanently mounted in the car. It cost over $800 and Detroit Cellular charged something like $19.95 a month plus 65 cents a minute. Those bills added up in a hurry.

I held out on getting a cell for as long as I could. Finally got a Startac flip phone in 2000 I believe. Still have the same number. Flip phones were great, you could put them in your pocket even if you were wearing jeans.

You can't put your current cell phone in your pocket?

I've had mine for 9 years, since I moved to NYC.

This was before number portability across carriers -- I was switching from Sprint to VZW, so I lost my 248 number that I had with Sprint. In retrospect, though, I'm glad to have switched, as it's annoying to constantly have to give people an area code that they're not expecting.

The phone I got with my current number was whatever the cheapest flip phone that VZW offered at the time. Probably an LG or something. It didn't even have a camera.

Depends on the pants I'm wearing. I guess I should say I can't always comfortably put it in my pocket.

9 years. never will change it. no need to update the area code even if i move. who cares about long distance anymore...no one...that's who.
