12 wounded last night, no deaths. All of them sound gang related, and in a few descriptions it sounds like two people soothing at each other, both coming away with wounds. I especially like the hospitalized "victim" being described as uncooperative by Chicago police. No shit guys, he was probably shooting first.

I'm sure the Trib and others are disappointed with these numbers, given that it was a steamy midsummer Friday night.

    12 shot across city

Twelve people, including a 14-year-old boy, were wounded by gunfire across the city Friday night and Saturday morning.

Wilding incident in 19 last nite. About 12 teens to young adults exited an suv limo on clark & cornelia street and then walked down the street attacking lone white males and females while others inside the limo videotaped the beatings. A total of 4 victims in which one sustained a broken jaw. 19 tact had 4 offenders in custody.

I'm not sure if you count the guy that was shot and killed by CPD on Saturday night in your body count or not. He pointed a gun at a cop.

7 hurt in overnight shootings in city

At least seven people were shot across the city Saturday night and Sunday morning, including a man who told police that he lost $2,000 rolled in a rubber band after he tried running from his attackers.

Cops: Officer shoots, kills man who pointed gun at him

A Chicago police officer shot and killed a man who pointed a gun at him after the officer and his partner chased the man for a few blocks in the Greater Grand Crossing area early this morning, a spokesman for Fraternal Order of Police said. Police were on the scene of an incident in the 400 block of West Winneconna Parkway that began about 5 a.m., according to Police News Affairs, which did not have other details. The Independent Police Review Authority was investigating a police-involved shooting at that location, but did not have details, a spokesman said. The Cook County medical examiner's office had been notified of a death there, but also did not have details. A man believed to be about 25 years old was shot to death by a Gresham District officer after the man pulled a gun out of a knit cap he was carrying and pointed it at the officer in a driveway on Winneconna, said Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7 spokesman Patrick Camden.

You can always count on the Trib to toss in BS like that from the aggrieved "relatives" in an article while omitting the fact that at least 2 of this 4-pack are violent ex-cons with an impressive assortment of felony arrests. These guys don't care if they get arrested again and do more time. Thats where their friends are.

i'm surprised the relatives didn't say they were honor students, thats the typical line

just talked to a cop buddy, he said

one was arrested over 100 times. they were trying to make a knock out video. (like that old man who got sucker punched on the red line)

  • Some statistics on murders per capita so far this year. Chicago is still high, but not nearly as bad as many smaller cities. You can probably guess which ones.

Whatever New York did is working, or they're seriously fudging their data.

Homicide rates of large U.S. cities

Chicago officials have taken a lot of heat this summer over the rising homicide numbers compared to this time in 2011. Though Chicago has logged more homicides than any other U.S. city, it does not have the highest homicide rate. RedEye took a look at how Chicago's rate compares to other large U.S. cities and cities that reported more than 100 homicides last year. Numbers come from the cities' respective police departments. Rates are per 100,000 residents.

I was curious about stats like this.

I do know that in the Giuliani years, NYC put more uniformed officers on walking beats around the city in all five boroughs and violent crime took a nosedive.

Some of those numbers--Detroit, STL, Baltimore, N'Orleans--pretty shocking.

That's what they've tried to do here. They got rid of the highly trained squads that would swarm over a problem area in favor of more beat cops, and thus far what worked in NY is not working here.

After a little research, it's more than that. Found this from 2007. Interesting.

Why Did Crime Fall in New York City? - NYTimes.com

Here at a meeting of sociologists at the Hilton, a debate over whether more effective policing was responsible for the fall in crime in New York City.

NYC also sends people to prison for unregistered guns and has by far the most stringent gun laws in the country. They also have one of the lowest % of gun owners in the country and that also helps.

a lot has to do with Rahm constantly playing both sides.

    1. Tells criminals tell "take it to the alleys and away from the children"
    2. calls Chicago a "sanctuary city" for people from bad places like northern mexico (there is a serious illegal alien issue in chicago, which in turn, fuels the gangs)
    3. McCarthy is a joke. His own force has no respect for him, and they are very short-staffed on the CPD

Until they get a Commish that understands Chicago and its issues intimately and then hire 500 more cops, its not going to get better. Only plus is that winter is coming. This one is supposed to be shitty too (no 70 degree new years day)

so people who would otherwise possess a gun to murder someone don't do so because owning a gun would be a crime? do you see what's funny about that?

I was reading that the other day...he essentially said, if you get arrested, we won't check to see if you're here legally. So basically, we the taxpayers get to pay for the trials and jailing of potentially hundreds of criminals here illegally, where instead a simple background check would get them shipped back to Mexico to be dealt with. BRILLIANT!
