I go to the same place all the time, and most of the girls recognize me so I get pretty good service. If they give me a really good scalp massage while shampooing, and aren't overly annoying then I might tip a little more.

Yup this...plus it's like once every 4-5 weeks? I think rule of thumb for hair cuts is absolute tip amount - say $6-7 versus a set %.....unless you are a chick getting a $60 treatment then you may go %.

This. Place I go to now has sports on, and unless you bring up conversation with them, they just give you a kick-ass cut and don't say anything. They're doing it right.

Amen. I despise chatting with my barber/stylist. If I close my eyes while you cut my hair, I'm giving you a hint.

Lots on the line and I want to keep a good relationship going. Plus a hair cut is much more of a service than say opening a beer at the bar. It's basically the norm to tip a dollar for a beer. That's outrageous. 3 dollar beer and I feel cheap if i don't give 4. I start tabs as often as possible so you can tip out at the end of the night the typical 20%.
