I'd have to pay for it myself (no dental as a grad student), and I hate going, so it's been 3 years since I've been to the dentist. If it was covered I'd still probably only go once a year though.

Twice per year.

Gotta go to the dentist people. If you have insurance you might as well go twice a year. If not, go once a year and dont get x-rays and its not that expensive. Doesn't matter how much you floss and brush at home. You can't clean your teeth as well as the dental hygienist with the big tits. Tartar will start to build up around the base of your teeth and cause your gums to recede. Then say hello to gingivitis.

Well, I wish my dentist would note it on her chart. I've told her every time she's brought it up that I'm not interested and yet she still asks me at every visit. Dentists and eye doctors have become such pimps for their suppliers.

This is also the same woman who gave me a cupcake pop at my last visit to celebrate being named best dentist in the area by some local rag.

For some reason my mom waiting until I was in high school to get me braces and my best friend was dating the orthodondist's assistant, who was also a stripper , so every time I sat in that chair I knew my friend had been going to town in that same chair after hours and it still haunts me to this day.

Last year I busted my face up pretty bad and broke a couple of teeth.

It had been 30 years since I had seen a dentist. The last visit is when I was in the Army - it was not pleasant.

The dentist commented that my teeth and gums were in great shape (other than the trauma) and my teeth were among the whitest he had seen for someone my age.

I brush twice a day, only occasionally floss. On the positive side I eat very clean and do not smoke or drink coffee/cola. More than anything I likely just am lucky enough to have inherited good dental genes.

I did go back for a cleaning a few months later and hope to begin a more regular regimen of dental care.

Your average person who has not had a lot of previous restorations would probably be fine going once a year for an exam/cleaning, and x-rays every other year, granted they properly brush twice a day and floss properly 2-3 x week. A lot of people are pretty lazy though, and if you have had a lot of previous work done, small problems can turn into bigger, more expensive, more painful problems pretty fast if not routinely monitored.

I had a pretty bad experience with my last dentist.

Not a dentist....but I feel like it works better than flossing. Placebo? I don't know, but I feel like it does more.
