Hypothetical: You have $75 Million to donate to MSU athletics

It gets in the way of the co-ed Greek bath houses my $75 mil is putting in each end zone. They're bricked of course.

If we pool together several of our $75 mil's, we could get the statue, the sodomy rooms, the Greek bath houses, AND maybe even have some left to brick the stadium.

Before posting, I was going to say build a replica of North Dakota's barn but I would need one of you guys to chip in $25-35MM to help me out. Their 11,500 seat barn cost $100MM in 2001.

We need nothing bigger than 7,000. We can't fill the one we have now even halfway on most nights. A smaller more state of the art would serve much better than a bigger one that is less extravagant trying to keep the cost down

Stadium rehab. I'd think that 75m would go a long way to fixing and cleaning up the concourses and bathrooms. In addition, I've always thought that the stadium should be more Greek thremed. I don't mean sodomy rooms, but more columns, friezes, and metopes.

Tanfan would spring for the sodomy rooms.

  • 75 million to women's field hockey, we'd get every recruit in the nation and dominate the sport for the next 40 years.

Your average UofM fan and I have something in common, neither of us went to UofM. Though we do share One major difference, I got Accepted.

Actually, this is probably where I'd start. A world class aquatic center and a complete overhaul of the IM buildings.

Our football stadium turns 90 next year....

+1 I would throw some of my $75mm to add 2A . Add Navy ROTC.

Some for lobbying; the rest for the 3rd part of that new building to include Navy ROTC so SCum is not the only route in Michigan to a Navy or Marine Corps commission in a college other than tBoat School.

I'd love to do that too, but not sure it's practical right now.

Maybe a facility on Gull Lake at Kellogg for them would work.

  • I would buy every single brick, and a bunch of asbestos mortar, and rebuild the smoke stack those bastards destroyed.

    Big Ten Referee

  • since we're being ridiculous...

I wouldn't pay for anything outright, but work with the athletic department to facilitate their priorities with seed money.

Probably $10M or so to help rehab Munn and get the training facility named after me.
$20M for a state of the art aquatic and IM facility--I'd probably need to get that named after me as well.
$10M for scholarships to expand participation for non-revenue sports.
Obviously football should get something, but they bring in the money so football will always be taken care of.
I'd use the rest to pay for a Michigan State Club either on campus or on one of the big lakes. It would be an uber classy club for alums and their guests only. Beautiful decor, refreshments, lots of jobs for students, reading rooms, smoking rooms, tennis courts, racquetball. If near the lake it would have sailing, premium beach space, and probably accommodations.

Speaking of this... why isn't there a Michigan State version of Camp Michigania?

Flame machines for when we score touchdowns. Then I would appoint Les Grossman the head recruiter for all sports.

Of course the gas jets for said flame machines would be mounted in the ass of the Jumbo Sparty Statue; accompanied with green laser search light eyes. The visual effect at night would be spectacular. Penn State has the cougar roar, we'd have shooting ass flames with crisscrossing search light eyes.

100% to football and basketball. I'd allow Hollis, Dantonio and Izzo determine how best to allocate.

-15 million to fball Lockerroom renovation
-20 million to fball stadium renovation. Bathrooms, concession, tv's in concourse, maybe a mini MSU fball hall of fame set-up
-30 million to hockey for arena renovation
-10 million for Tom Izzo to do with as he sees fit because from my view he's already has everything running at peak capacity and I wouldn't know where the even beging to suggest upgrades to Tom freaking Izzo. Maybe the ten million can be an apology for firing him 97, again in 02 and once more in '11 (amirite tanner?)

  • Tear down Demonstration Hall and replace it with a state of the Art Aquatic center. Redo Jennison and turn it into a state of the art gymnastic and wrestling practice and stadium.

Exactly! But I got dibs on the suite at the top of the Sparty statue for the scUM and ND games. I mean, co-ed bathhouses... with co-eds... for one's halftime, pre-game, post-game "relaxation". Come on now. That's a GREAT idea!

I'll even put in a coin operated vending machine stocked with Viagra for Tanfan and his crew.

I have given this serious thought. The Statue of Liberty cost about $50M (in today's money) to build. For a bit more, I am thinking we could build the proposed free-standing Sparty statue of legend. $75 Million should cover it, and give MSU the most intimidating landmark known to any college. I can't think of a better way to spend that money.

Completely agree with this but I would like to propose a new design. Rather than just a giant replica of the Sparty statue, I'd rather go for a new design straddling the the stadium entrance. It would be just like this except wearing a spartan helmet with sword in its hand.
