...not really. That rate includes capital gains on money that's already been taxed. It's a political spin aimed at capturing the thoughts and manipulating emotions of the mindless and weak of this country. The douchebags are those that want to redistribute the earnings of this country's producers.

Bottom line is that everyone that pays taxes pays more than their fair share...sadly, only 50% of this country pays taxes. We need to get the able bodied and capable individuals in the 50% of this country that don't pay taxes to be productive members of society.

This country's producers (aka, the people who actually make shit) think 50k a year is rich.

  • Meh, assuming out of a 300mil population that around 250mil are taxpayers, that means that each taxpayer spent an average of 7.6bil/250mil=28 hours on their taxes. BFD. I'm going to also assume that this is a normal distribution and that there are some who spent a hell of a lot more time than than and some that spent all of an hour.

Let's take this a step further, let's assume that every tax payer in the US gets 8 hours of sleep a night. 365x16=5840 possible productive hours per year per tax payer. So on average a taxpayer spends a total of 28/5840=.0047 or .47% of their year on federal taxes. Big fuckin whoop.

This is a related link. It starts out reading like a big slam on the earners, but eventually paints to top earners as being experts at avoiding taxation, the parasites sucking everyone dry... and the middle class assuming the burden.

(for the record, the site name doesn't thrill me and is a little too dramatic for my tastes)

"Already, the top 20 percent of all income earners in the United States pay approximately 86 percent of all federal income taxes.

When the government "steals from the rich" and "gives to the poor", that also tends to create a large group of people that decides that it is easier to take from the government than it is to work for a living.

In 1980, government transfer payments accounted for just 11.7% of all income. Today, government transfer payments account for 18.4% of all income.

That is not a good trend."

You're wrong about capital gains - they represent new income, and they're taxed at a favorable rate because the biggest campaign donors tend to have a great deal of investment income.

You're also wrong about the percentage of people who don't pay taxes. Can you even name one adult in this country who doesn't ever pay any taxes?

Maybe you should fact check the talk radio shows you listen to.
