I just told Comcast to BIOYA, what are my best options?

  • I just cancelled Comcast for everything other than internet service. I was on a Triple Play, because that gave me the best deal for 2 year pricing on the package I wanted (I never once used the phone service). When my payment ballooned to $170/mo, they said they couldn't offer anything better, so I told them to eat shit.

Now, I'm wondering about options. Over the years, I've had both Dish and DirectTV, but for some reason I would lose service a lot more often than anyone else I've spoken to that has those services. I would lose the signal on a clear, sunny day. So, I'm not willing to roll the dice on them again. Besides, I want a hardline for internet, since I need it for work.

What is my best option? Hulu, Netflix, Amazon or something else? I really want to watch Breaking Bad when it starts up in a few weeks, but I also want a reasonable amount of programming options. I don't know which services offer new TV as it's aired, or how all that works. I also have the moral flexibility to utilize a programming source that pirates the things I'd like to watch.

Btw, Comcast told me that I'd be eligible for their best available pricing package as long as my TV service is cancelled for 60 days. I'd hate to go crawling back to them, because I think the policy is moronic. Help me out here.

  • I've had Dish for 3 years and love it. I can probably count on one hand the times I've had service issues.

the snow seemed to be my biggest issue in the last year

it would stick to the dish and we would lose signal

Netflix is $9 or so a month, Hulu is maybe $12?

Are you paying $70 a month for internet?

  • I appreciate the info, but ATT isn't going to work for me either. I had their internet service when I had Dish, and it sucks ass compared to Comcast. As the commercials say, phone lines just can't carry what fiber optic lines do. And I DO need reliable, high bandwidth flow for work.

I'm more concerned with what TV shows or networks I could actually get with the various services. None of them make it easy to see what you do (and don't) get, let alone WHEN the new show might air.

Bottom line: If I can watch Breaking Bad anywhere, I'm cool with not having anything else. As far as I know, Dish refused to renew it's contract with AMC, which means no Breaking Bad. These monthly fee wars and exclusivity agreements are making it hard to find a good option other than Comcast. (Btw, I love Comcast, great service and products, it's just that they punish loyalty, and won't give me the same pricing as new customers)/.

With basic cable, I recently got rid of. I haven't seen a bill without it yet.

    My internet is around $35-$40

  • Buy an Apple TV ($99). You can subscribe to Breaking Bad in iTunes, and you'll get the newest episode the morning after it airs in 1080p. Plus you'll own the content.

Also, I'd stay away from Dish Network if you wanna watch BB. They just announced that they're dropping AMC effective today: https://www.twitter.com/BryanCranston/status/219129354054144000

  • I just re-read you post about the moral flexibility thing. If that's the case just download the episodes on the Pirate Bay and be done with it.
