I lost my Mom to cancer June 20, 2007. Miss her greatly. Lost my Dad in 1987.

I thought I was going to have to go down the road of hospice and go through what you did, and I was dreading every moment of it, trying to figure out how I was going to do it, and what the emotional toll would be. Those 10 days were awful enough, I can't imagine 6 months of that.

My Mom was taken to the ER because she had blood in her urine, thought it was something as simple as a UTI. That was June 10, 2007. It snowballed from there, we gradually found out how bad it was over the next few days, cancer on her kidney, in her lungs and liver. She passed away 10 days after being taken to the hospital. I think she just gave up when she found out how bad it was, she didn't want to have to go through what I was dreading, the hospice, the weight loss, the suffering. She didn't want to be a burden and didn't want to suffer.

I've been taking care of mom since February. To me now a lifetime ago. But I woke up in a panic the morning after her funeral thinking I had missed my shift to take care of her. Boltsd out of bed, got in the car and then realized .....

Lost my old man in May of '04 and miss him every day.
The pain of loss will never go away but in many ways that's a good thing because what you're feeling means that what you lost was both real and significant.
You are your Mother's legacy, you are the embodiment of her memory. I have no doubt that she was proud of you up until her last breath. The key for you, now, is continue to make her proud.

I'm so sorry. My prayers are with you and your family. Losing a parent is a very hard thing to go through.

I'm sorry. My parents are in their early 70's and too often I think of how little time they may have left, so I try to make every time I see them count and tell my Mom "I love you". I don't say it to my Dad tha often, but he knows.
