I urge President Simon NOT to support the new playoff proposal

My opinion is different. Delaney seems to always do whats best for Ohio State and Michigan.

Delaney gets a ton of credit for starting the Big Ten Network, but lets not lose sight of the fact that Delaney made that decision out of spite! It was a casual conversation with ESPN-ABC about renewing the contract and Mark Shapiro threw a lowball offer out there that apparently pissed off Delaney, so he basically was like "Eff it, we will start our own network!"

He got lucky it worked or he would be viewed totally different right now.

That being said, he certainly looks out for the Big Tens two "flagships" and will screw over any other conference team if it is favor of one of his golden gooses.

I love the article synopsis..."The conference released a statement calling for a But uncovering..." scared

Good article, though: "Feeling emboldened, Delany sent a package to Shapiro that included champagne and a note. Shapiro said the note read: "See, I did it."

"My reaction was: Who does that?" Shapiro said. "It was so juvenile. I sent the note to Bodenheimer and poured the champagne down the drain."

What's "juvenile" is pouring a perfectly good bottle of bubbly down the drain. He should have drank the champagne, pissed in the bottle, and sent it back to Delany.

Big Ten: ESPN's lowball offer triggered Big Ten expansion - Chicago Tribune

The conventional Big Ten expansion timeline begins Dec. 15, 2009, when the conference released a statement calling for a But uncovering the true origin of Nebraska

Thanks for telling me what I think. However, you are absolutely wrong. I don't think that, never said it, and it's a waste of time to debate someone who just makes up specious arguments.

This system is better than the BCS, and better for the B1G. Sorry you can't see that.

I agree that a playoff system is better than the BCS and better for the Big Ten. Please tell me where you think I said or implied differently.

I'll give you a hint..........you won't find any post from me saying another remotely similar to what you're telling me I think.

I'm 28 and frankly could care less about everything, but the Spartans ability to get to Pasadena. The rest is dumb, do the plus one if you have to crown a champion.

47, sonny. I was at MSU the last time we went to the Rose Bowl. And it was glorious.

It worked because the Rose Bowl doesn't rely on BCS rankings.

I'm not a fan of the BCS. I'm just saying that's not a real telling example.

Nice to hear that not all young people piss all over tradition b/c they have no perspective.

Some of you are arguing for the new proposal b/c an undefeated or one-loss BT champion would always have a shot at the NC. Yeah, it's pretty much that way now.

This is stupid. Why would you care more about the Rose Bowl than a National Championship?

We have a chance at both right now. We're not gaining anything from the new system, other than a shot to compete for a NC if we happen to finish 3rd or 4th nationally. How many times has that happened post-Duffy? In exchange, we're largely surrendering, every other year, a chance to play in the Rose Bowl in Big Ten title years where we finish with 2 losses, (which in the BT is pretty likely).

Please understand that I'm not arguing for the current BCS system. I'm just saying the new proposal is bad for the Big Ten.

if this system was in place i think there is a decent chance those are your semifinal match ups the last two years

I think Arkansas would have been jumped by a PXII team last season due to the committee. Don't think a Committee allows 3 SEC teams in regardless of rankings.

  • I'm going to enjoy MSU winning the Rose Bowl (when it's a semi-final for the title game) and then going on to win the outright championship.

Who the hell can afford to go to two bowl games? Especially when the second is on a week's notice?

I'm assuming the fact that the NC is rotating means that in some years it would be within driving distance of B1G country, no? I'm thinking Minneapolis (new stadium), Indy, etc?

Dude, all 3 games of this playoff will be sold out regardless of who is playing or where the game is being played at

That's like asking who can afford to go to two consecutive away NFL playoff games.

I just hope this new system is a stepping stone to an 8 (or 12) team playoff. The bowls already lost much of their tradition, and really should be scrapped due to how corrupt they've become (and maybe then it'll be a bit more affordable to attend the playoff games, without the corrupt bowl committees getting a bunch of jacked up price fixing agreed to by local hotels, etc)

I'm assuming b/c of logistics, they'd have to pick the site beforehand.

And no, I do not think it'd be an automatic sell-out. If anything, I think a lot of $EC fans would blow off flying out to Pasadena for a semi-final in hopes that they could wait a week and see their team play closer to home in the final.

Uh, no it isn't. NFL playoff game stadiums are mainly filled by the home team. In many bowl games, there is no home team. CFB and the networks rely on fans traveling to bowls.

The one bowl that's managed to hold onto most of its tradition is the Rose. I couldn't give a fuck about the other redneck bowls.

It may take a while, but it probably will be...history dictates that.

Once the money starts flowing and over shadows the arguments against expansion, it will happen.

My God... seriously... only college football fans could bitch after the sport does something to appease the ones that have been bitching for years. I love this sport more than any other, but the group of people who follow it really is chuck full of some insufferable idiots. I honestly think if we went in 2010 there'd be a thread bitching about how we were playing some little Mountain West school instead of a Pac 10 power.

Look around you. College football is changing. Either accept it or become a Notre Dame fan and go pop in some DVDs of Tim Brown and Lou Holtz picking grass on the sidelines. There is still the ability for MSU to get to Pasadena and just like always, you have to play good football every week to get there. Not much change to me. Everything else is just simply fretting about bullshit.
