I would give my left nut for UNC to come to the Bres next year

  • We have gone to their house twice for the ACC challenge that I recall. And we have gone to Duke twice. Duke has come to the Bres once (worst game ever) and we played UNC at fricken Ford Field.

I truly believe we would kick UNC ass next year at the Bres. They are losing 4 starters, and not just one an done UK types.

Without Marshall you see how they became very beatable. Kansas is good, but not great by any means, they should have lost to Purdue in round 2.

Yes, UNC has a roster full of All Americans, but 4 new starters for a hostile road game early in the season, and IMO MSU is a top 5 team next year, let's do this. King1

True. But MSU doesn't lose 4 starters, and MSU is actually going to be MORE talented next year.

Can't say the same for UNC, losing 4 lottery picks.

I also think people are overestimating how much losing Green will hurt. Everyone said the same about Kalin. Green was elite of the elite at rebounding...so is Dawson it would appear who can take that role over.

Green was not an elite scorer, as he hovered at 30% shooting wise against 12 of the 15 ranked teams we play. Green, for as many times he would find the open man, had excruciating painful turnovers. You say the Illinois game? When Green came back in the second half, he had 3 straight turnovers. Illinois game was an example where MSU would have probably won if he didn't play at all. Shit happens even to All Americans.

  • MSU gets a major talent upgrade at the 2 and 3 with Harris and Dawson back. The 1 and 5 should be continued improvement by former All Americans, and the 4 is the only question mark right now.

Not many teams will be able to match MSUs length and athleticism at the 2 and 3 spot.

What a stupid post. Green was more than just "elite rebounding". He passed, handled, coached, led, and scored. You don't replace a player like that; you change your gameplan to try to accomodate for his loss. MSU may be more "talented" next year, but it will be a struggle to replace one of the best players in MSU history.

Yes, we heard the same about Kalin. Scoring, leadership, etc.

I agree that the biggest part will be leadership. Also, Green had a 1:1 assist to turnover ratio in the games we had against ranked teams. I'm just not sure where all this elite passing is coming from, not with a 1:1 ratio.

Green was limited athletically, and we saw that when he was guarded by real athletic guys he couldn't score. No, It is not going to be easy to replace him, but I am looking at the sum of the parts coming back and who MSU has coming in.

As I said, MSU will be better at 4 of the 5 starting positions next year and have a deep bench. This is where the optimism comes from. Could losing Green really hurt MSU? Yeah it could. But MSU will be starting three 5 star players next year.

Believe what? That All Americans have a bad game here and there? No, I don't believe it. The Illinois game never happened. It's a conspiracy! tin foil hat

I can name games where other All Americans had shit games, it happens dude relax.

Perhaps you forget some of the circumstances in the Illinois game, so I will remind you:

He was sick at the beginning of the game
Picked up three fouls in the first half, one due to a stupid fucking tech
Hurt his knee half way through the 2nd half

If you watched the whole game, you would have noticed when Green was playing in the second half the team made a little run and looked a lot better. Once he got hurt the game went down hill from there.

Sounds like you're too afraid of playing UNC except in a year when have few returning players. And need to play them at home to beat them. How un Izzo like.

You like to twist facts to make the worst case scenario. It will undoubtedly hurt to lose Green. I think the overall talent level will be higher next year but freshman are freshman and there is no replacing experience. Losing Thornton will hurt too. As with most Izzo teams, expect them to struggle early in the season and be tougher come tournament time based on a season's worth of experience.

I'm sorry but who ever said that we were losing leadership when Kalin left? Izzo has said that there was no leadership last year. In contrast, Izzo has said that Green (along with Mateen) is the best leader that he's ever had.

I understand the point that you are trying to make, but we simply cannot underestimate the value that Green had to this team. Yes, he was an elite rebounder. He was a reliable scoring threat that could really pick up the slack when the rest of the team was struggling. But he was also a very smart player. Not only did he know every intricacy of our playbook, Izzo has said that he knew every intricacy of most of the opposing team's playbooks and would direct the rest of the players on what to do mid-game. The value of a heady player that can drive his teammates cannot be represented by statistics, and that is where Green really excelled.

PS: It is becoming very depressing to have to refer to Day-Day in the past tense. cry

It had been a wonderful evening and what I needed now, to give it the perfect ending, was a little of the Ludwig Van.

I think too many posters on here aren't going to understand this until next year when everyone is questioning why we're giving up 10 points more a game than we did this year. Green (along with Thornton and Wood) are really going to be missed on the defensive end. We were #2 in the country in FG % defense and #15 in scoring defense. Next year we won't be close to those numbers at all.

No. What I am saying is this...we have played UNC twice at their place and once at a neutral site.

Time to get them at the Bres. And yea, it would be nice to finally play them when we have a ton of talent, and they don't have one of their teams with the starting 5 being first round picks. What's wrong with that.

No. Just saying that every year All Americans leave teams, and every year those said teams are just as good or better.

How about Kansas last year, losing Morris twin and Selby. Thought they were going to suck, yet here they are in the FF.

I am not going to panic because MSU is losing Green and I am not shy to say as a team, MSU will be better next year.
