    It's a win/win either way. SCum wins they validate the ranking, they lose it was to Bama at a neutral site. Either way SCum has nothing to lose. The pollers will think the same way.

    Jim Tressel admitted that MD is the best HS talent evaluator he has ever seen.

    Saban is good, but he has always surrounded himself with good good evaluators...Bobby Williams included.

    The Difference between Willimas and others and Dantonio I have observed is Dantonio is more concerned with a player's popensity to mentally develop as well as physically develop over just eyeing the on the field raw talent...but even Dantonio misses probably 75% of the time.

    It's good that MSU has a coach that has something a lot of coaches don't have...a masters degree in Education.

    Tressel said MD was the best evaluator of DEFENSIVE talent that he's seen. Just want to clarify that.

    Hmmm. I don't care about my poster rating much and I think having a thread like "SpartanRocky is the best" isn't my style.

    How about you have to try the VIP free trial? Weird, because it doesn't sound like much of a punishment, but I think it'll get you hooked. Plus, the polls come out the week before the season, so I'm betting you get hooked with all the Boise State/ND game info you'll read wink_msu.

    In short, bringing in highly rated recruits hedges the bet in favor of your team, as the averages favor 4-stars over 3-stars, etc. It does no more than that

    It really doesn't even do that. No team is bringing in a sample of four-star recruits large enough to ensure that these overall percentages will bear out. It has a lot more to do with just looking at offer lists and trusting the coaches. Rankings are good to generate national recognition of the players and program, but beyond that they aren't worth the bandwidth it takes to download them.

  • If we had Cousins back along with 2 of our WR/TE we would be top 5. But the prognosticators are just seeing too much offensive skill and experience to replace to elevate us too much above 10 to 15 in the polls. There are a couple areas of concern on the defense as well. Interior DL where we lost 3 of our top 4 and the fact that we still allowed 20 TD passes last year which is too many. This stat believe it or not ranked us near the bottom the B1G. Those are 2 areas that will need to improve or in the case of interior DL it will need to establish itself. Also Keyshawn will need to replalced in the return game. He has been very very good the past couple years. Will it be Hill? Kings? Thompkins? Sims Jr? Arnett?

    You know what the silver lining about this season is? MSU will have many chances to prove any doubters wrong.

    Look at the schedule. Boise is going to be ranked to start the year. ND should start out 2-0; they'll be ranked when they play MSU. Ohio State should be 4-0 when they come to EL; they'll be ranked in the AP.

    Iowa could very well start 5-0 (Northern IL@ Soldier Field, Iowa State, Northern Iowa, CMU and MInny all at home, then a BYE before EL) and a 5-0 Big 10 team is going to be ranked.

    After Iowa, it's @UM, @UW and Nebraska at home. All 3 are pre-season top 20.

    There is plenty of respect to be had on the schedule. Plus, MSU is going to start this year in the top 15 or so. It's not going to be tough to move up the rankings when you start ranked.
