I'm putting my dog down on Friday

  • So sorry to hear that! But like you said, it's the right thing and she'll be out of pain. I'll send some imaginary hugs/warm thoughts your way. sorry

I was 11 when we put down our first dog, and that was rough (she had become paralyzed in her back end). The dog we have now is almost 11, and I'm much closer with him, so I'm dreading that day...

This really sucks. She's 14 1/2 and it's time to put her out of her misery. She has horrible arthritis, she is mentally losing it, she just stands and stares at the wall, she doesn't eat anything anymore, she shits on herself and rolls in it at night, she can't lie down on her own...

I'm dreading tomorrow and know I'm going to cry my ass off. She was such a great dog, a true member of our family and a true friend to me.

However, I am glad she lived a rather long life. When I got her 14 years ago from the Humane Society, I never would have expected she would still be around until almost 2013. I'm lucky to have known her...

I feel for you. She's one of your best friends and a close family member. I am sorry you'll be losing her. It is so hard doing that, I know. Good luck to you.

My dog is about to turn 3. I'm already dreading going through this.

Try not to think about it until it happens. Enjoy every day with your dog. When that time comes, you'll have so many memories to look back on.

  • Sorry to hear it. Never an easy thing to put down a pet. Just try to make her comfortable, and spend a lot of time with her tonight.

I have always stayed with mine even though I am bawling my eyes out; I know I would regret not being there for them. It's tough - sorry Cosmo.

+1 for your dog and for giving her a great life.

That's really the thing.. She could have been adopted by anyone at the humane society.. From someone who would have given her the life you did to someone that would have used her as bait in a dog fight. You gave her the best life you could have during the time she had and it sounds like she is lucky for it.

    Good luck tomorrow, never easy.

Thoughts and prayers are with you, Cosmo. Jfaspen stated it very well - it sounds like you gave her a great life and you should really be proud of that. I'm sure she appreciated it.

She's definitely got some beagle in her....cute little girl.

Sucks man, I remember my family dog (beagle) had to get put down the night before the MSU/UCLA tournament game a couple years ago. I was staying at my mom's at the time and had to watch his slow decline. Its absolutely awful.

I kept it together until the last day when he went outside and literally tried to slam himself into the ground and die. My mom asked me to go pick him up and bring him back in out of the cold. I did and I just started bawling profusely as soon as I picked him up. I'm tearing up typing it right now. He was such a good boy. Died right there in my arms on the way back in.

I wouldn't trade the heartache for the twelve years he was around, though. He was special just like most of them are. Good luck with it buddy!

How is this possibly the same poster who acts like an arrogant prick?

    Very touching........

To the OP, my condolescences.......when your heart strings get pulled, it can be difficult. But it also shows your LIVING!! And you obviously have a good heart.

  • thank jebus I got an immortal dog from the pound. I'd hate to have to part with her.

    good luck tomorrow.

  • Sorry man. Went through the same thing in May when we put our dog down, but it was more sudden.

Hardest day I have had in 30 years. Cried like a baby and was pretty wrecked for 3 days afterwards. We actually had it done in the house which I think made it better.

Good luck. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

    89akerholic

  • Sorry to hear that man sorry. I know it probably doesn't help that much right now, but be thankful that you've had her for that long and even more so that you have been able to prepare for this. When I lost my girl a few years back it was way too sudden. Seemingly perfectly healthy 7 year old dog collapsed and I had to put her down the next day (cancer was the culprit). Absolutely sucked and I was a wreck for a good week.

Enjoy her while you still have her and make sure she knows how much you love her. You'll be in my thoughts.

  • This was our black lab mutt who got Leukemia. HE was like 8ish . Not totally sure since he was from the humane society. He was a good buddy and loved people. Hated water which is kind weird for a lab.
