In hindsight, we really overreacted about the new logo...

  • When looking at the uniforms we sported these past two years, I really feel like we overreacted with the whole "new logo" meltdown. It's funny to think about, but really, if it wasn't for poster Giant Moose posting those pictures on this board we would probably be sporting that logo on the field right now. I remember around a year ago somebody posted a picture of the logo on the current helmet, and it looked perfectly fine...almost better, as if the logo was fit for that helmet. The spartan logo has never been universal throughout our programs history, and for a large part before the 2010 season that spartan logo was sported by some pretty sub-mediocre teams. If the new logo were to be released today, I don't think I would have the same response that I did a couple years ago.

    What do you guys think?

  • I see an elephant with lymphedema. I wish they hadn't made the front part of it so different because with the solid plume it would have looked absolutely awesome on our football uniforms. Overall I am disappointed that they couldn't have made a small compromise. I think our current logo looks just a little bit dated.

    lol so you're saying that you would rather have uniforms that resemble baylor than having a new logo that other than a few differences looks pretty much the same as the former one? Seems like we've been pretty open about our uniforms and changing our stadium, turf, basketball court, etc. Personally, I'd be totally fine if we were to change our logo. I know I certainly wouldn't meltdown like I did a couple years ago..

    actually saw some in the college sports store at Watertower in Chicago, was athletic shorts that had the new logo on them, thought about buying them just to have but didn't want to drop $30 or whatever it was on them as a joke.

  • OP is wrong, but the some version of the hybrid logo would have been decent.

    You're relatively new to the board so I'll let it slide. If you think I got five stars from "sunlight blowing" you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

    However, it easy to get a rating you will soon have by posting dumb shit that if you really thought hard about what we were going to post before you post it, will come to the stay conclusion, its a terrible idea. The fact that about 7 people "kinda" liked the new proposed helmet shows how off base the athletic dep. was in wanting to change something so iconic and highly regarded as the helmet logo.

    But you know, you probably know more about it than myself.

    Throughout the Perles era we used the Spartan "S", and in 2001-2002 we went back to Spartan S again. It's not like our football team has worn it consistently for years. The logo actually dates back to the late 70's, during the Rogers era. We had a different spartan logo throughout the glourious championship years of the 50's and the 60's. We never consistently wore that Spartan logo, and we won one lonely title in the late 70's with that logo. We won our titles in 87 and 90 wearing the S. The only really good team we had with that logo was the 78 team, and the one year that Saban actually did something(1999). Other than that, it's been the logo of the countless mediocre teams of the Waters, Bobby, JLS, and a largely mediocre Saban era.

    I don't think what I'm saying is that far-fetched. I wouldn't be totally outraged if we changed our logo. That's all. You can be a traditionalist, whatever, I just find it odd that so many of you have this odd affliction for this logo. If all of you traditionalists had your way, then so many of the great things Hollis has been doing with our program would never have been passed. We'd still be playing on fucking AstroTurf if all of you traditionalists had your way.

    I'm just saying that I wouldn't throw a boner fit if I saw our logo change today.
