  • Just trying to get a feel for people's opinion on this.

Are you in favor of cutting some varsity sports that simply take up resources?

Is the campus experience any less rewarding if there weren't any cross country events to attend? (Unless of course you were a runner.)

I personally think we'd be happier as a fan base with more money and resources
poured in to the revenue sports.

  • That's a slippery slope down to the lowest common denominator. If you view a university athletic department strictly as a money-making venture, you're correct. I kind of think a university has a different set of goals though.

  • If I remember correctly, Hollis has already mentioned before what a joke OSU is with how few sports they have in relation to their budget.

Edit: Im an idiot. Believe he referenced Texas.

    LOL, WUT??

I'm pretty sure OSU has the most varsity sports of any school. Something like 36 men's and women's sports.

Is there a certain number of varsity sports a B10 member has to support?

W/O doing the research myself, how does MSU compare to tOSU and other B10 schools regarding number of sports?
I know Wisc has women's ice hockey. Not very typical.

Per year or do they do like a PSL upfront and a smaller cost per year like NFL teams?

Somewhere on the slide (that I attached) it mentioned $10mil, but something that size and of that importance for MSU athletics I think the more money poured into it the better. I mean it's looking like we're spending $10 mil on scoreboards for god's sake, I think we should put more cheddar into this as it will probably last much longer than the scoreboards will.

Wow 10 mil just for that part? I definitely think we should do that though. Looks like we have 8 mil that's not committed to any project yet. I don't know if that counts Izzo's and Magic's 2 mil nor do I know if that counts the 2 mil more we are spending on the Scoreboards. Either way it definitely would be worth to do it ASAP if it helps recruiting.

  • I think the price should fit the product. The product has been great. I have had season tickets for six years, and I don't know if I can afford the tickets if they increase. This could suck for me.

I'm not advocating to reduce varsity programs. Just thinking out loud here.

But you seem to fall in the "I could still go to the games if they reduced expenses instead charging more" catagory.

So you would be happier if the cost for you stayed the same while still improving facilities by reallocating money away from other sports?

You want to cut the opportunities for real student-athletes so we can improve the football and basketball teams? fingergun

Don't think -- it can only hurt the ballclub

I don't think anybody should lose their sport. I didn't say that at all.

What do you mean by expenses?

The football program does deserve a facility upgrade. The product on the field has been great the past few years. I don't think other sports should be neglected just because the football team is successful.
