Wang Chunchen Becomes First China-Based Curator Hired by U.S. Art Museum - News - News & Opinion - Art in America

The Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University, East Lansing, hired Wang Chunchen, Beijing-based critic and curator, as adjunct curator in March. Wang thereby becomes, according to Broad director Michael Rush, the first China-based curator hired at an American art museum.

I don't know if thats right. I know MSU has roughly 10% international (and a large portion of the students come from China), but they're saying 1 out of every 10 new students will be from China? I think like any class is 10% Ohio and can't imagine that being the same for Chinese students alone.

I realize it's good for the university to take in all of the international students for higher tuition rates. Though with record numbers of applicants I'd rather see an increase in local kids being accepted.

I'd rather see an 80/20 split between in-state and out of state. Of the 20% out of state, I would like to see a healthy amount of that pool be international students. International students bring a lot of $$ to the local economy.

I read somewhere that there are more students from China than Ingham, Clinton and Eaton counties combined at MSU.
IMHO, this is a great development. As state funding for universities continues to decline, MSU needs to find ways to offset this by reaching of state and internationally. Plus, I love the diversity it brings to mid-Michigan.
I wish we'd start looking at recruiting more people from Vietnam so I can get some good Pho up in here....of course, the Vietnamese girls will need to understand the photos are not a bad thing....also, some Malaysians. Roti canai is one of my favorite foods on planet earth.

Even if it comes at the the expense of higher admissions standards?
