Inge: Designated For Assignment

  • It's only one AAA game, but good for him. I'm sure most Tiger fans are rooting for him to be a productive member of the big league team, especially if it will help the team come playoff time. And obviously he has a long way but a good start in Toledo is better than the alternative.

  • He is turning himself into some great piece of tradebait.

Inge is 3-4 with a HR, 2B, and four RBI. Just one game but at least hes focused tonight.

I was at the game and, after his HR, said "Where was that in Detroit?" The guy in front of me said "He didn't see pitching like this in Detroit", which is a very good point.

  • I give him credit for even being in Toledo. If given the choice of being at home with your family and playing in the minor leagues, I don't think too many 34 year olds with $40M in career earnings would choose the latter.

If he wants to fight for a comeback and earns a spot back on the big league roster, so be it. Tigers are paying him regardless.

  • To be fair, the guy that replaced him had the GWRBI for the Tigers last night.

  • At this point in his career he is a tweener. Too good for AAA, not good enough for the Bigs.

To be fair, the guy that replaced Inge won't hit much better than Inge used to hit when he was healthy. Nor will he provide any pop. But were all excited because Inge was hitting .050 since coming off DL. Tigers had to do something and the left handed bat is nice...

So you are saying simply because Betemit is now in Detroit a career .278 hitter through 2010 is going to morph into an Inge whose career MLB BA is .240?

To be honest it may be time for him to hang it up. If you cant beat out ryan rayburn at 2nd you have some problems. Im sure he has plenty of money saved up, and im sure dom and leyland could find him a job in the organization if he still wants to help out(defensive coach in the minors, public relations, something). The guy has been a great tiger, and I would hate to see him ruin it by having another shitty year, and/or heading down to the minors or even out of town.

  • This bump seriously pissed me off. I was excited that they finally dumped the guy, and when I couldn't find any other reference finally realized this was 8 months ago. Way to dash my dreams on a Monday, bumper.

  • The definition of insanity is to repeat the same thing over and over and somehow expect a different result. He can't hit. End of story and hopefully end of career. Illitch went all in on the Fielder contract and I just can't imagine Dumbrowski telling the boss that his team missed the playoffs because his second baseman hit 170.

Sorry Temple, don't take it personal but it had to be done. Got me excited for nothing.

Worth is superior from an offensive and defensive perspective and can play SS all without bickering for being benched because he hit 170. Unfortunately it's likely that Mr. Illitch wants Inge on the team to break ST and see how it works out. The guy has too big of a heart when it comes to long tenured players.

See this is my biggest problem with Inge. 2006 is supposedly his good year. He hit .253.

Since 06 he has hit yearly:

    .236
    .205
    .230
    .247
    .197

He's never been a great hitter. And I don't care about his power. We don't ask Brandon to hit 25 bombs, just get on base.

And then they bring a world class hitter in before the 08 season to play 3rd and Brandon pouts like a 13 year-old girl. They should have severed ties with him right then and there.

    First and best comment:

"Let's not get to excited over his.171 average, as he always hits well in spring training."

Don't think -- it can only hurt the ballclub

  • He's in the lineup today as DH. It's their way of telling him "start hitting, or you're on your way out".

    agggghhhh...this thread fooled me toolol

It's like the Inge version of the Jennifer Love Hewitt to do Playboy threadbanghead

Seriously though. I don't know how Inge will make the cut since two guys are hitting better than he is. But I've been wrong before.

Yup, seems they may have made their minds up about the starting IF.

He would have to hit .400 or better this last week to garner any consideration to remain on the active roster. He's at .171 with about a week to go.

Please don't let the door hit your way out Brandon. I wont miss your inability to hit a ball with any type of movement associated with the pitch.

  • They will still probably roll his old ass decrepit body out there in the year 2057 just so the down river fans have something to cheer about.

You guys are all going to be very sad when he not only earns a spot on the roster but is the starting second baseman. I can almost guarantee it. Look at McClendons comments, and couple that with Leyland's man-love for inge, and the fact he's been "great" at 2nd (not my words, Leyland). We will no doubt have one more year of Inge, we can only hope that Rayburn and one of the other guys get so hot that he can't play Inge much.

I don't understand this whole concept of keeping him on the team just for the downriver people. What makes him so appealing to them and why doesn't the fact he sucks pull rank over those down river dbags.
