Inge: Designated For Assignment

Danny Worth is outplaying this doucher by a mile.

You're a Wings fan. I bet you like Inge too. :)

I don't understand this whole concept of keeping him on the team just for the downriver people. What makes him so appealing to them and why doesn't the fact he sucks pull rank over those down river dbags.

Downriver people relate to him because in their minds he is one of their own.

are you kidding me? I'd like to see someone toss Inge off the Ambassador.

Also, I was at the wings game Saturday, due to me being there, they had 50 shots and won. they will now win the cup.

Looks like the remaining battles are:

    - Inge vs. Worth - Dirks vs. Thomas - Oliver vs. Smyly vs. Below - Villarreal vs. Marte

Worth, Dirks, Smyly and Marte should win those battles but Dirks is the only thing close to a lock.

The next start for each of the 5th starters will likely determine who wins it. I really don't think they want to give Smyly a shot straight out of ST but he's trying really hard to force them to. Oliver is what he's always been, Zach Miner 2.0. Guy can not throw strikes no matter what you do to him. My gut says they do everything they can to give Oliver a shot but they won't wait as long as they did with Coke to yank him. I'm a big Marte fan but you can't go wrong with either of them.

I also just figured out that former Tigers 1st round pick Brandon Hamilton has returned to the Tigers after taking 2 years off for personal reasons and not getting along with coaches. He'll likely need an extended spring training before being assigned.

But he moved up here and embraced their lifestyle. Even became a Wal-Marter, got the arm tats, and hangs with Derren McCarty!

That Berry guy might make the roster, too. Leyland seems to like his speed.

He's already been sent down after causing a stir. Has legit speed and a good glove but he's going to have to prove he can hit AA ball before he's given a shot. His track record isn't too good, especially at 27 but I would love to see a legit base stealer on the bench should we have trouble in the OF.

I disagree about the downriver link - I think its far more of a chick thing, and not just the downriver ones.

Did he get sent down today? Beck tweeted that Berry had a shot less than 24 hours ago.

Right. Anderson's track record was much better as well. We didn't have Boesch, Fielder, Peralta, Avila and Young then either. The problem with Anderson is he didn't have a nice OBP. If you're going to hit 250 with no power, you better at least be drawing walks and stealing bases. Berry has more potential as far as speed goes and picking up from where he left off last year, has been maintaining a high OBP as of recent. He's also hitting against mostly MiLB pitching late in games. Again, he hasn't even proven he can do this consistently in AA at 27 so there isn't much reason to get too excited but we should keep an eye on him, you never know.

Side note: It's always interesting to check up on former Tigers. Casper Wells is really struggling in ST and our bench OF position is in good shape between Dirks and Thomas.

Ya sent down with Turner this morning.

There's also an open spot for Smyly on the 40 man roster with Pauley being released should he win that 5th spot.

  • If Below doesn't win the fifth spot are they considering him for the long relief spot? I thought I read that last week somewhere.

There are currently two open spots on the 40-man. Martinez was officially put on the 60-day DL. Alburquerque will most likely join him by opening day, bringing the total 37.

Is that including the guy we claimed from Cleveland? I don't really see them rushing anybody into those positions. Might be a few interesting cuts around the league that we could take a stab at. If Smyly doesn't win the 5th spot they would have no reason to add him to the 40 man until later in the year when they call him up.

The Tigers signed Kelvin De La Cruz and assigned him to Erie about a week ago. The 40-man is full. Smyly could still make it but somebody would have to be released.

It's possible but not likely. They would likely keep him stretched out and starting in Toledo so that he's ready to go should Smyly/Oliver trip. As I said, they have Coke a long leash last year and likely won't be as patient this time around. To add to things, Coke and Balester are long inning eaters and there isn't a need for a 3rd one. Villarreal or Marte are filling the AlAl position from a strikeout specialist perspective. Villarreal has been working on a change up since we saw him last and has seen positive things so far

@Buzzer, as pointed out VMart went to the DL (39) and AlAl is expected but not necessary yet at this point.

    It's about fucking time.

    Raburn, you're next.

As of a couple days ago, Rayburn was hitting .414 this spring, with extra base hits in 70% of the games he's played in. (It took and 0 for 3 effort to drop his avg. down to .414)

In the past, he always struggled in the first half of the season, then came on strong after the All Star break. It's just spring training, but it does bode well IMO.
