Inge in, Worth out

  • ZIPS Projections:

    Danny Worth - 231 average/286 OBP/328 SLG

    Brandon Inge - 222 average/296 OBP/357 SLG

So remind me why you all care so much about this? It's not like Inge is being put on the team in place of an actual good player.

what exactly does Inge need to do to play his way off the team? If he hasn't yet I am not sure how he can

I agree, however, I'm not the one who keeps bringing him back.

I am scared of Inge becoming a clubhouse cancer. Yes, I'm being serious. We've all seen how he loves bitching to the media. How is that gonna go over with Santiago and Raburn when Inge is getting more run than they are? Is Miggy gonna hate DH'ing on days Leyland decides he needs Inge's overrated defense at 3B?

Just cut his ass already. He brings literally nothing to the team besides distractions.

It's more of a value argument at this point. Worth is getting paid 482K for those numbers while Inge is making 5.5 million. Considering they're both negative WAR players (Inge was worth -1.9 wins in the time he was on the active roster last year), I'd rather have the younger and cheaper option.

Infielder Brandon Inge (groin) will be activated from the disabled list Saturday and infielder Danny Worth will be sent down. Also, the Tigers will activate Saturday's starting pitcher, lefty Adam Wilk. Right-handed reliever Brayan Villarreal will be out.

Manager Jim Leyland said at the end of spring training that Inge would start at second base against most left-handed pitchers. The White Sox have a lefty, Chris Sale, going Sunday.

Wilk, meanwhile, is starting in place of right-hander Doug Fister, who is on the DL with a side injury.

This is like Comedy Hour x 10. Some people seem to be 'screaming' to be fired.

Smart move is to go with the youngster.............ANYBODY but Inge.

    Yep. One play.

And even with that awfulness, his fielding numbers in LF are way better than Delmon Young.

Let me know when Young would ever lay out to make this play.

At least Young can produce throughout the year as opposed to Mid August -Oct. Its like recycling garbage with Raburn and Inge. It brings back memories of constantly allowing Robertson and Miner to start another game..........because, well just because.......Classic garbage.
To do this shit with all the hype for this being 'THE YEAR', is disgusting.

Leyland said if he hit, he will make the team. He's hitting like .100 between spring and AAA. So I'd guess .100 is enough.

...........and Dumbo piped up about HOW AWESOME HE WAS LOOKING AT 2ND. This removed any doubt that the person Inge had naughty pics of was Dumbo. Great job security.

  • I'll offer my view on it yet again - I am at a complete loss to understand what Inge would have to do to play himself off this team. Worth vs. Inge, in the grand scheme, matters little. But the point of managing a team, either at the GM or manager level, is to try to make the team better. Worth, it would seem, at 26 still has the potential to improve. Inge has shown a steady decline, consistent with the aging process. Even if Worth has plateaued, Inge is an aging veteran in a clear decline. Good teams release those players; always have. I'm baffled......

B.Inge has been bitching to the media since after his first season when Pudge replaced him at catcher. I don't get it. Get rid of this guy.

Miggy, who would be an absolute superstar if he liked speaking English, gave up his position at first this year, to compare.

  • Maybe they figure that Worth will be able to grown more with consistent playing time in Toledo vs spot duty and pinch running in the D?

    Too logical? Sorry.

The argument isn't Young vs. Raburn offensively. They both would be in the lineup regardless. It is Young vs. Raburn in LF

Raburn has a better arm. But they both are suspect at fielders. Edge - Young, since he is a professional hitter throughout the year. Raburn at the plate from now thru August is Inge Part Deux.

That still doesn't answer the question of why Inge is even here.

Mods, is there anyway we can set up Clemenzas own board for his non-stop tempertantrums about Leyland, DD, Raburn and Inge? I think it would save us all a whole lot of time rather than have to sift thru his four straight posts attacking those trying to have serious discussions about baseball. Seeing as how nobody ever responds to him anyways, I think it would all work out just fine for everyone.

Well, we do know that he has schticks, and that he uses them to upvote himself and downvote his enemies.
**And then he brags about how he doesn't care about upvotes / downvotes. Dude is mental. He once made a schtick pretending to me a family member of a recruit and posted on tDuff.

No wonder the National League is complaining they can't compete with the AL in signing aging super sluggers. Pujois, Fielder, Inge.....huh

I'm dumbfounded right now. Let's start a guy that hit .180 last year and was equally as bad in spring training this year at DH so that we take away the best past of his game. It's brilliant!
