Is Abbey Road the best album ever? Discuss.

Just top to bottom an amazing album. I can't listen to one song without listening to it all the way through. Discuss.

Favorite Beatles album for sure. Named my cat after it. Have a sealed in plastic original master recording on Vinyl. It has the only drum solo on In The End, the full and short versions of the AR Medley are fantastic... OP- I think we are in agreement......

I like your pro-Beatles bent, but your criteria with Springsteen loses me. Art isn't about technique or virtuosity. It's about creation.

Bob Dylan is arguably the most praised "musician" the US has produced in the popular arena. He plays piano, plays guitar, harmonica and sings -- all of them not terribly well. Yet he is undeniably a genius, and that genius is communicated through his much maligned singing. And I wouldn't want to hear it sung through any other vocal chords.

With that kind of logic, any artist should be revered for his or her "individuality." Then who are we to be subjective about their work? I prefer Dylan to Springsteen because I think his lyrics are more thoughtful, but to each his own.

What is that, a Titleist? A hole in one...

Definitely Maybe is more critically acclaimed, but I just can't go against an album that includes Roll With It, Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger, Some Might Say, Morning Glory, and Champagne Supernova... plus possibly the best set of b-sides ever in Acquiesce, The Masterplan, and Talk Tonight.

I basically look at Definitely Maybe and (What's The Story) Morning Glory as a double album. Same sound, great balance, impossible to choose which is better. One day Morning Glory seems better, and then you remember that Definitely Maybe has Rock N Roll Star, Live Forever, Cigarettes & Alcohol, Supersonic, Slide Away ...

I get downvoted for posting John and Yoko's nekkid album cover?! Chill out people -- it's a bloody joke.

I'll give you an upvote. Made me laugh!

The Masterplan (the compilation, not the song) is probably also in my top 5, the b-sides from the era were ridiculous. It's hard to argue against Morning Glory, but Live Forever is probably my favorite song, and you can't go wrong with Slide Away, Supersonic, Cigarettes and Alcohol, and Columbia either. It really depends what kind of mood I'm in.

  • Abbey Road is my favorite Beatles album.

I love most of the White Album, but it has several songs that are like nails on a chalk-board to me:
Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da has simply been played too much and was somewhat annoying to begin with.
Piggies is annoying/grating to listen to with the snorting sounds, although I appreciate the social commentary.
Birthday has been played way too much.
Revolution 9 is not music. It is audible art and gets skipped every time.
Good Night is an unfortunate casualty of Revolution 9. I usually just switch to a different album rather than listening to it.

Sgt Peppers, Rubber Soul and Revolver would round out my top 5 Beatles albums.

I consider myself to be a huge Beatles fan, but almost every one of their albums has highs and lows.
