Is Bobby Valentine mentally deficient?

  • what a great hire by the Sox. How could most casual observers of the game KNOW this was a bad hire and they could have NO clue? wtf...........

PS........Mike Lupica is on 'the sports reporters' blaming Epstein for everything lmao...........

  • Their team isn't very good. The pitching sucks and after the first 4 hitters their lineup doesn't scare anyone.

  • Bobby Valentine is well ahead of schedule on his plan to turn the Boston Red Sox into the New York Mets.

  • Bobby V hasn't done a very good job managing them but most of these issues could be seen from a mile away. Cherington's move this season were nothing less than atrocious. Just as an example, the Red Sox somehow went from having two competent shortstops to Mike Aviles (good hitter but butcher of an outfielder) just so they could have Mark Melancon. Their bullpen signings and trades were terrible on paper and are being proven right. Bard should never have been taken out of the pen (always struggled out of the rotation in the minors). Like I said Bobby V hasn't been great but I hope Boston fires him and ignores the real issues.

  • Theo is responsible for much of the mess that was left. The rest is Larry Lucchino's problem. Ben Charrington is Larry's puppet and doesn't have any real power.

Theo's "moneyball" philosophy landed them John Lackey, Carl Crawford, Daisuke, Julio Lugo and JD Drew. Theo got really lucky on the Nomar trade and the Dave Roberts for Henri Stanley trade. If it weren't for the Yankees absolute incompetance in 04 Theo's legend wouldn't be so great.

The Beckett for Hanley trade (with WS MVP Mike Lowell throw in as a salary dump) helped them out in 07 so he got that right.

Oh, yeah, Bobby V was a horrible choice and everyone hates him but the Three Wise Men.

  • It's Valentine's fault that the bullpen gave up back to back 7 run innings yesterday?

You got part of it right. After 2007 Theo got away from what was working and started signing some horrible contracts in Lugo, Lackey and Crawford.

Lucky is making this into a gigantic mess. He planted the slam piece on Tito in the press, overruled Ben to get Weasel Valentine and together they have made some horrible moves in constructing the roster including the Scutaro trade, signing Punto, Padilla, etc.

Valentine throwing Youkilis under the bus was awful and many of his on field decisions are terrible. Ellsbury and Bailey getting hurt in odd manners certainly didn't help matters either.

As a Sox fan I'm truly disgusted right now with everything that has happened nice the collapse in September which was due in large part to injuries and horrible play by crap fringe players. Hit the full panic button with no reason. Now it's a huge mess. I hope thy gt the embarrassment of losing 100 this year. The ownership and Valentine deserve that embarrassment.

    Cub's fans: Cool with losing

Not for long...hes doing everything right so far. Hes building up our farm system which has been terrible over the last decade. He got rizzo, and drafted jackson. He made somme pretty solid deals too and knows we have no chance of winning in the next couple years so hes letting the old guys play out so far until the young bloods like rizzo, castro, jackson, vitters continue to develop and hit their prime. Now if only he could get someone to take sorianos contract that the tribune co. left us

Agreed. They basically wanted someone who didn't mind not having any real power. Bobby V wanted to work again so here he is.

Maybe now Bobby will get his wish and Bard will go into the bullpen.

I'm sure he'll make the argument that he has no choice. Bard has been meh as a starter while the bullpen has been nothing short of a disaster.
