Is Jim Schwartz's job in jeopardy?

  • I dont follow the Lions(cards fan here), but I'm just curious if there are any rumblings that he might get the boot after this season is over.

The Lions have a good amount of talent but it seems like he is in way over his head (and also is in one of the hardest divisions in football)

If I were the Lions GM I would make a push for Gruden.

No chance in hell after they made the playoffs last season but if this type of season happens again he probably will get shit canned.

Being called a sunshine blower is not insulting to me and I'm proud to be one.

Agreed, no way he gets the can this year but another flop season and the heat will be on.

  • Are you kidding? Emperor Palpitine (WCF) is probably building him a statue after going 10-6 and making the playoffs.

  • I would say Schwartz is firmly on the hot seat. He's got 5 games left this season. Four against "tough" teams. Arizona is in a freefall, so that should be a W. Indy with the extra preparation time should also be a W.

Team needs to go 2-3 for him to stay IMO. Winning at least one of the last two games (Atlanta in primetime, and Chicago in the finale) is probably necessary if they finish out 2-3.

  • Not at all. He needs 2 more years to recover from Matt Millen. Millen left crap at every unit and the team is being built from nothing. Need to get some secondary players in the draft.

I think it's a no brainer that he gets the boot if the Lions finish 4-12.

Agreed. I will say that the expectations for next year should be playoffs or bust. I expected a slight regression this year so I'm not totally surprised. He's allowed one fall back year. If they go 7-9 next year again, he should be on a seat made of fire.

They will still have to overcome the Bears and Packers, if not the Vikings. Tough division. I still don't see a lot of talent in the back 7 on defense.

  • This year, no. If they Lions are still mediocre next year, but a touch better (going 8-8), still no (as bad as that seems). Schwartz will have to have a 2-14 type of season next year to get canned.

You are dumb. They could lose every single remaining game and Schwartz wouldn't be fired.

  • better linebackers needed.

He is a very good coach. Never sold on Gunther though. We dont tackle. We lower our head, hit and hope way too often.

How many coaches keep their jobs if they go 0-6 against the division? How many coaches keep their job if they finish the season 0-8? Not many.

If the Lions do in fact lose out, Schwartz will be let go. This team is squandering way too much talent if it can't win a single game the 2nd half of the season, and in that case it would seriously be time for a change. You can't be 2nd in the NFL in total offense, but middle of the pack in scoring. The running game has been pretty solid since Leshoure came in (other than the 2 games vs. Minnesota), honestly, they need more of that. Give CJ, Broyles, Scheffler, and hopefully Young some legitimate play-action to work with.

You do realize they went 10-6 and to the playoffs last year, right? Now he needs 2 more years to build? Um, ok....

You have no idea how much weight making the playoffs after 12 seasons of not making them if you think he'll get fired even after a worst case scenario of 4-12 he has next season at least.

  • No. I really can't imagine it would be. Most people are behind him around here and are happy with what he is doing with the team.

This is the correct answer. Schwartz will be back next season, regardless of the finish. And if Gruden ever comes back, it will either be in Philly, or Dallas.
