Is MSU only taking one basketball commit in 2013?

  • Is that why Izzo hasn'y offered James Young, because he's waiting for Jabari Parker?

Man, that would be hard to turn down Young even if Parker commits. Young is the #9 player in the country according to rivals.

Young has been offered. Reportedly, he did an interview placing MSU behind Kentucky and Kansas, neither of which has officially offered Young. Demetrius Jackson is a strong possibility as well. No one knows on Parker, but MSU is still in it.

If Izzo took Jackson, would that sway Tyus Jones? MSU does need a PG though, because in 2014 Trice will be a senior and he will be the oly PG on the team unless Tyus does commit, but thats a big risk.

I guess that means Denzel will not be a PG because he's not quick enough and he's taller.

Yup, but he is announcing in October. That is a long way off. But MSU is certainly very much in it.

Yep. Get on the twitters, search for Jabari Parker and Michigan State. Lots of buzz about our chances here.

If he does commit here there will be a lot of walls that will need to be repaired in Michigan and especially in East Lansing....

Now I could be wrong but does Young have grade and inconsistency issues? You could then add on top of it our limited scholarship availability, and have more than enough reasons why it's somewhat unknown what is going on here.

Young has played out of his mind since January and is currently the hot name in the 13 class. The grade issues were real, but they don't appear to be holding anything up at this point. MSU has offered according to most of the analysts following the recruitment. UK has not yet formally offered, but apparently UK is the school Young is highest on right now.

Izzo is retiring after this season and wanted to drive worry warts like yourself up the wall for a year. He is sick of recruiting and since he's quiting why should he care about another recruiting class.

Reality is Izzo is in a position where he recruits players that will fit in with the team, recruits the parents besides just recruiting the stud player. Izzo has withdrawn scholarship offers too.

If what rookmsu posted is true and Young has MSU behind UK and KU then his interest in MSU isn't nearly as strong as your green glasses view of recuiting would indicate. Based Young's current ranking if UCLA offers MSU probably drops to #4.

Young is a good player but it appears he is interested in schools that recruit coast to coast.

Some kids don't want to stay in Michigan and close to home. I can't hate on him for that.

Where are you getting your information that UK is Young's leader at the moment? Wasn't there a VIP article just the other day that said although he was very interested in Kentucky and Kansas he still considered MSU to be his favorite?

From my understanding, UK and KU have yet to offer Young though.

I have also heard he thinks very highly of MSU, but I guess it is unclear right no what the hold up is with MSU. Maybe Izzo being super selective because of the limited spots?

I admit that I do not know much about this Demetrius Jackson kid, but wouldn't he kind of be a plan C type player? I would think that our priority would be Parker, then Young, then Demetrius if we don't get the first two. He isn't a highly coveted prospect based on his offer list (ND/Xavier/Butler) and is a 6'1 point guard, which are a dime a dozen. I don't mean to rag on the kid, but I just don't understand. Am I missing something?

It had been a wonderful evening and what I needed now, to give it the perfect ending, was a little of the Ludwig Van.

You are missing the fact that he is a consensus 4 start prospect rated in the 60's nationally, who is not done growing. He is a Harris/Dawson like athlete in Appling's body who is expected to be Indiana's top player next year. His offer list will grow, but schools know this kid like ND and MSU, so why waste their resources?

Really Izzo is retiring after this year, what are you basing this on?

It was linked off of Twitter, an article for a UK site. Certainly that is a factor, he may be more complimentary depending on which school he is talking about.

Do you take 4* Jackson in '13, or wait for 5* Tyus Jones in '14?
