Its an interesting question. If you consider... for example, the lansing area... you have:

East Lansing Police
Lansing Police
MSU Police
Ingham County Police
Lansing Township Police
MSU Police
LCC Police
State Police

All covering the same overlapping area within a 2 mile radius of one another... with no real interest in sharing typical daily duties. So you could definitely make that argument.

You forgot Meridian Township which routinely covers EL East of Gunson.

I live off of Burcham, so I see plenty of police presence there, but on the highway I see very few compared to TX (unless it's a weekend holiday or something similar). It surprises me because I figure the state would use traffic violations as an easy stream of revenue - especially on the interstate where the average speed of vehicles seems to be close to 75 mph.

its true. i am a cop. i work and talk with them all the time. of course it depends on what city you are in and the size. but for my city which is about 130,000, most of the time they get called out are for medical calls and injury accidents. but we have a dozen different fire stations so just start dividing it up. its about 80%.

i know that. i was just referring to the OP thinking they have a ton of cops at every corner.

haha never. ill tell you what not to do. never call an ambulance in my city if u need to get to the hospital. drive your ass yourself. and that includes if you get shot. they take their sweet ass time getting ready to drive 5 miles to the hospital

I'm torn on the issue. I just think it is funny that Michigan is the only state to lose population in the last 10 years and they have some of the most archaic laws in the US. Reap what you sow, I don't care. I don't think Obama was in the area when I came into town. Just a shitload of cops, and most of them weren't protecting the public, they were acting as roadblocks in which some vehicles had to pay a bribe to get through. In the US it is called a ticket, in Mexico it is a road block. There isn't a difference.
