Is There Anyone Here Who doesn't Honestly Believe...

  • That MSU will win the Tourny?

Everyone's predictions have us winning it all (save the resident Vadger fan), I'm curious to see if there is anybody who doesn't think this team has what it takes to go on a tear and win the next six games. Anybody think Memphis will jump up and bite us with their superior athleticism and their mastery of TomIzzo that one time that didn't even count? Or Mizzou taking down the big bad undeserving one seed or Coach Cal and the eyebrow gang tripping us up in the FF? anyone? Bueller?

FTR, I have MSU cutting down the nets after a fourth match up against OSU.

  • I have them losing to Kentucky in the FF

    NEspartan

  • Can they win? Sure. Will they win? I'd say them losing is more likely than not.

  • Of course I think they have what it takes to win it all. But so do some other teams.

Gun to your head, I think everyone here would predict that they will NOT win it, simply because it's not an easy thing to do.

  • Honestly believe? Of course, UNC and Kentucky are not push overs IMO. UNC has our number and this "appears" to be Kentucky's year...

This is a fair point. However, the odds are against every team. Realistically there are about 10 teams that are good enough to win it all, maybe 8, and State is definitely one of them.

  • Idk, maybe I overestimated everyone else's confidence but I would pick an MSU team with arguably the easiest path to the FF of any one seed to play great defense, rebound and get into the fast break better than any other team we would play against. There's going to be a lot of carnage in some other regions and with the way I have things unfolding, MSU is going to end up with some very favorable match ups.
Frankly I'm surprised that not everyone is jumping up and down yelling about MSU's chances, they have done everything you could ask of them and damned if they don't look to me like the most impressive team in the country.

  • For MSU to win out it will a run similar to the 2010 tournament. We are not the most talented team but we have enough talent, toughness and coaching to win. If and when we lose it will be to a team that can take away the lane and force us to shoot from outside which is a weakness. UK is my biggest worry and I'm confident we can beat UNC and Syracuse is a goner without Melo. Memphis is kidding themselves if they think they can beat MSU. I don't know Missouri's team at all.

I can't bring myself to ever pick Kentucky for as long as they don't have senior leadership and they play in that wretched conference. It's hard to have freshmen play at such a high level for six games when other teams (B1G, ACC, Big Least) are abttle tested and have grown significantly over the course of a season. It's just not how you win a championship IMHO

  • Definitely can win. Obviously we would have a better chance with Dawson, but I think the rest of our guys want it as bad as anybody in the country.

    theboomer87

  • I think we have as good a chance as any. not saying we will win, but we definitely have a chance

  • I've drank the kool-aid, I'm all in. I have 3 different brackets and MSU winning it all in every one.

I may be wrong, I may be right. The way I figure it, MSU has as good of a shot at winning it all as 6-7 other teams do, so why would I pick against them?

I would say that every team falls into this category. No one is better than a 50% chance of winning the tourney. Kentucky is not nearly as good as everyone thinks. I actually think Kentucky was a lot more talented last year than this year.

  • I was a skeptic when Dawson went down but what a week can do to change your mind. The whole "could but better chances they won't" argument is for the birds. Thats for EVERY team with high hopes coming into the tournament, not just us. That includes UNC who was as close to a lock as there can be.

  • So then it's settled, MSU will maybe possibly be natinoal champs and so could anyone else. got it.

  • Do I want them to win it all? Yes, so bad I can taste it. But if you are forcing me to decide on a bet between State and the field, you have to take the field, right?

    This 100%.

Kentucky appears to be a great team, but they rely heavily on freshman players who may or may not perform well in the context of the NCAA tournament.
I don't think Kentucky has any more of a chance of winning it all than any of the other #1 seeds.

No, I'm all in. I'm taking State. Call me dellusional but the field doesn't impress me. I think Duke will outplay Kentucky and we'll match up very well with them. It boils down to the fact that I have a great gut feeling about this team, one I hadn't had in '09 and '10. Nobody in the field scares me and this team is hungry. Izzo and Green are foaming at t he mouth for a championship and I think this is the year it happens. green_koolaid

I honestly believe if you put every team against each other and every team played as good as they possibly could that the team that would win it all would be UNC. I think that UK, KU, MSU, OSU, and Mizzou are all very close 2nd's.

  • I wouldn't be too shocked if UVA upset Mizzou and possibly made it to the E8. shrug

  • Where does everyone have Kentucky losing? They have a really easy road, especially if dook gets knocked off early.

I would agree closely with this, I would say UNC, Kentucky, MSU, and then the rest of your list would be the second tier.
