Jamie Samuelsen picks Trey Burke over Mateen Cleaves..?

I really don't understand 97.1. Do they try and hire completely incompetent people or what?

  • Straight trollin', homie. Pay it no mind. That is a Joe Falls classic right there. Aim at MSU's greatest player since Magic to inflame the MSU fanbase while pandering to the Walmarters. Make sure you get several subtle shots in at Cleaves and don't acknowledge his game winning shots, or the games when Burke shot UM into a loss. Newspapers are desperate to maintain relevance, so they print utter shit like this. Jamie clearly is trying out for Mitch's Blue Wall spot since Mitch is bound to die at some point.

That's what I thought too. Maybe the guy doesn't get a lot of attention, so he saw this as his chance to finally shine? shrug

  • Trey Burke has won the same amount of NCAA games as most Michigan basketball players in the last 20 years.

    ComeDependState

  • For his four years Mateen Cleaves-led teams had a March record of 23-6.

In his junior and senior years the Spartans went 18-1 in the month of March. 18 and friggen 1.

  • Let me know when when Burke wins a national championship, or goes to a single let alone 2 final fours. How many wins does Burke have in the NCAA tourney? Oh yeah now I remember ZERO! His team lost to a fucking MAC team in the first round.

Or let me know when he has 20 assists in a game against his rival.

What a joke, kid hasn't won anything other than a co-b1g championship

  • So this guy (I assume the writer is a male, although his name is Jamie and his understanding of basketball may imply female) lists off Cleaves credentials, which are off the fucking charts, than leads his point on why he'd pick Burke because he "willed" his team to victory in 2 conference games, including one against a below-average opponent?

Look, I respect what Burke has done to this point. There's no question he was the catalyst behind most of their wins this year. And yes, I won't debate that he carried his team on his back in their last 2 games and deserves a lot of credit. But they're still JUST conference games. HUGE difference between doing that in one year, compared to a player that did it for 3 fucking years, including the NCAA Tournament. Burke wills his team to victory against fucking Purdue? How about Cleaves manning his team the fuck up in games against Syracuse and Iowa State en route to a Natty? Or busting his head open after running into a 7 foot brick wall against Oklahoma, and then staying in the game to gut out another W in the tournament? All games that REALLY mattered.

Cleaves' intangibles are so off the charts, they can't even be appreciated to the level they deserve. Trey Burke is so far off from accomplishing what Cleaves did, it's laughable, and I take it as an insult that because one guy has had a solid season (to this point), he's even being compared to an all-time great, let alone being called a better player.

This guy/chick can kiss my ass.

  • Read this "article" this morning and laughed at the sheer ridiculousness of it. He spent more time dismissing Cleaves' accomplishments than touting Burke's. One of the more obvious Blue Wall pieces in a while.

  • Wow Samuelson is an idiot.

He lays out all of Mateens accomplishments which put him at an elite level in the history of college basketball greats and he wants to compare him to a guy that has done nothing yet on the national stage?

Burke is a very good player and his accomplishments are very Chris Paul esque at the college level.

Just another scuM troll piece. Pathetic. .

  • Heard this same crap this week in the cross talk between this dick and Wojo, after Valenti.

I love those that paid no attention to MSU when Cleaves was a soph, who say he couldn't score.

That year in a home game against Ill he hung 27 in the 2nd half, along with 31 in the 2nd half (still a Spartan record) at NW, within 2 weeks of each other, when the rest of the team sucked and it was go off, or lose.

    But yeah, couldn't score.

    Larry Kazamias

  • I missed where burke willed um to a 20 point loss at MSU, and where he willed them to a late season loss with the b10 title on the line against the only team in the conference without a win.

Cleaves did not use the push-off as his signature move. And he used something called "shot selection." He also ran a complex O and looked to get the whole team involved.

Seriously. Every time someone here posts about this confirmed Muppet-- no matter what they say against him, no matter how good their case is-- the terrorists win.

You're giving a professional troll an occupation by not taking a page from MD's playbook and simply ignoring him.

    Don't support terrorism.

Cleaves has more tournament wins than the entire University of Michigan has had in - what - 20+ years?

  • Actually if I had to pick right now I'd probably take Burke. he's what 19? Cleaves is in his 30's. I bet he'd have issues trying to defend college kids in his 30's.

The first time MSU basketball aired in France the French surrendered to Tom Izzo just to be safe.
